If we trade Ricky he will probably quit.... again.

Because all that could change tomorrow. Ricky could become unhappy with some decision, or he could give in to the temptation to light one up. Who knows, maybe an apprenticeship to the Dahli Lama will open up. Given Ricky's past and his apparent current state of mind, anything could happen with him. As long as nobody is offering anything of real value then we are better off using Ricky for whatever we can get from him. However, if somebody stepped up and offered anything higher than a 4th round pick, I think we should take it. Then if Ricky does indeed go off the deep end again, some other team would have to worry about it and we would be sitting back smiling with an extra draft pick in our pocket.

You would trade Ricky for a 4th pick or better? RW is worth much more then that, is a good RB, something that we need right now to help Ronnie development and to be an insurance to us in case Ronnie cant adjust to the NFL.

If you can believe the following article Ricky doesnt know about any possible trade or at least doesnt like the idea.Apparently he has really bought into to Sabans program and probably would have second thoughts about playing for another team if traded.

You have to think that any possible trade for Ricky would be conditional so if that happens we will get very little for the trade if he decides to quit again.

So IMO we might as well keep him here.As long as he is motivated he will produce and he is not a burden on our CAP yet.

Ricky is going to be here while Ronnie is getting his feet wet. If and when Ronnie becomes a Pro Bowl caliber RB, then Ricky is gone :/

It could be a problem -- under certain circumstances -- to have 2 RB's that are that talented, but I have a feeling Saban won't let it be a problem. He strikes me as being awfully similar to Belichick with his ability to sell his system, and convice players that it's his way or no way.

yeah, I probably would. A 4th round pick next season is a lot better than nothing. Ricky's just too unstable to turn down anything of value. I would like to see what Ronnie can do before trading Ricky, but if while Ricky is serving his suspension somebody offers a fourth or better and Ronnie is looking good, I really think Saban would be wise to make the deal.

I do wish people on this site didn't get so hyped up about trades. Not to be a jerk but sometimes it seems like many folks get excited about trading a possible 1800 yard rusher for no names and late round draft picks. It's pretty aggravating, I should put my stance on trading Ricky in my sig so I don't have to keep repeating myself.


The short version: It would be ludicrous for the Dolphins FO to trade Ricky Williams for the kind of value he would command rigtht now. A couple of nice runs in a meaningless preseason game does nothing to increase that value.

Im lost as to why its a problem to have both Ricky and Ronnie. Keep them both and have the best backfield in the NFL. Rb's get hurt all the time. Yea neither of them will have 2000yd seasons but both could realistically get in the 900-1000yd range year in and year out. If things get to the point where one of them is miserable or starts trouble then its time to worry. Right now theres no reason whatsoever to trade Ricky.

Saban doesn't play that game.

He doesn't take the approach of something is better then nothing.

That is the Rick Spielman approach.

If that was the case we would have had an extra 4th this last draft and traded with Cleveland for their 1st and 4th.

I dunno what his value is on Williams. But whatever it is he will stick to it.

Ricky will not be traded. He will be part of the best Backfield in the NFL for a few seasons.
