Interest In Couch Could Pick Up Soon

couch comes here b/c he has a slim chance to start here and absolutely no chance to start in New York unless eli gets hurt.

eli is going to have a great year this year.

Couch wouldn't be given the opportunity to compete for the start, IMO.

You mean this year?
If so you are right on. How could he possibly readjust to the NFL, learn an entire new system and win a starting job in 3 weeks. Of course he won't be considered this year.

The reason they would bring him in would be to compete next year. He'd have an entire year in practice to learn the system and be ready to show if he can make a comeback or not in TC.

I agree. I'm not sure of A.J.'s cap number but I'd be willing to guess he's getting more than Sage and releasing him would be more economical.

Actually its the other way around.

If we cut AJ we would save his $540,000 base salary. We would still be counting $600K against the cap, but we would count that money regardless. Next year, we would have to count $1,800,000 against the cap, but this would be offset by the Base salary he would have earned.

If we cut Sage, we would save $575,000 this year, and not owe anything in the future.

So, if we needed to clear a roster spot, it would make more sense to cut Sage now, and then if Feeley does not improve throughout the season then cut him after June 1, 2006. That would push 1.2mil of Feeley's dead cap money into the 2007 season.

If the coaches think Couch has his arm strength back and he's more worth having than Sage or AJ...well I guess thats up to them. It would be interesting to see if he just throws a heck of a lot better after surgery.

Couch could pick up the O and start by midseason in case of injury or poor performance (again, if he really is 100%).

One exciting part about this is that Linehan has considerable experience with QBs. If Couch does come here, it would probably be his final chance to show anything. Having Linehan there for him would be a real positive because he's probably on the short list of the best QB coaches.

That would be interesting to see.
It happens with some baseball pitchers after surgery, increased velocity that is.

Yeah, and i hear we are also expressing interest in Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf, Todd Marinovich and Todd Blackledge. All will look to play key roles in destroying the Dolphins franchise over the next couple of years....

Tell me this is a joke? Couch said "[The Dolphins] would be perfect for me," said the 6-foot-4, 225-pound Couch, who recently got married and has lived in Fort Lauderdale for the past few years. "I'm not sure what role they would want me to play, but I'm open to competition."

Are you kidding? With this dead armed hasbeen Couch would be lucky to compete with a Broomstick for the starting job of who sweeps the floors!

elway had elbow surgery (tendinitis) and came back to have 3 really good years, of course he had TD, but TD didn't help him THROW the ball any better.

If this is in fact true then Saban and Mueller would'nt be wasting their time even looking into the guy. Some of you really need to use your head before posting rediculous remarks.....

Unless you think Saban and Mueller are no different than WannSpeil at assessing potential talent..... Is that what you are implying?

i bet if he comes in, AJ gets cut

yeah althought we gave away a 2nd rounder for AJ..sooner or later we have to realize he can;t do it for us. I dont know why we didnt get David garrard or billy volek..instead we got a 3rd stringer

If Couch wants to come in here for vet minimum then I'm all over it. Send Brock to the practice squad - no team is going to pick him up - but then you have the dilemna of what to do with Rosenfels?

If his arm is healed, and close to 100%, give him a chance. We don't have anything to lose if this truly is a rebuilding year.

I love the fact that he performed as a rookie in an expansion team, and later the fact that he had trouble is pretty edvident, but then, what exactly did cleveland ever do to improve itself? heck the only WR that was any good, and ever worked well with Tim was let go (signed with another team) because cleveland doesn't pay it's players.

Also at least tim still has higher numbers than another departed QB. I watched him play for UK, and I knew before his senior year that if he kept playing like he did, that he would be a number 1 pick or at least top 10.

Volek and Garrard weren't on the radar when the move was made.

Rick got screwed by two men (three if you count Gibbs) on the AJ trade: Dan Snyder and Dave Wannstedt. Dan swooped in and established the market price for QBs with the Brunell deal that got done, and he then refused to move Patrick Ramsey even though it is clear he was out of favor because he was a Spurrier-regime player. That really only left AJ out there in the time frame Rick was convinced this team needed a QB in. Yes, he could have waited for the likes of Kurt Warner. Unfortuantely, Dave made it quite clear that he wouldn't consider any QB unless they were in for minicamps. This was supported by the Brian Griese debacle. AJ was third on what was a list of three QBs, but he was the only one available.

As somebody else said, it's really Wayne's fault for giving Wanny a do or die year. Rick saw the handwriting on the wall and understood that meant it was also a do or die year for him. Desperate men do desperate things.
