Is Hickey Joined at the Hip to Philbin's Hot Seat?

I can't speak for what might happen in the nonsensical illogical world that our owner and his flunkies seem to live in, but I can tell you this...if Hickey would get thrown out with the trash if the team tanks this year there will be absolutely no one out there with any sense that will work for the Dolphins. We are pretty much stuck with who we have and hopefully they can right the ship. If they don't though...

In my opinion Hickey's leash is a little shorter than your typical GM hire and Philbin's leash is a little longer than most fans would like so they are loosely tied at the hip but nothing is set in stone. If they fail I would say Ross' ideal scenario would be to clean house after next season (Tannehill included).

I was with ya until you included Tannehill.

So if we're a competative team that barely misses the playoffs, we're hitting reset?

If this team fails to show up for the last two games, like they did last season when a win against Buffalo or the Jets would have put us in the playoffs, yes, Philbin gets canned and deservedly so.

Unless we suffer a catastrophic setback, I don't think anyone is on the hotseat this year.

Yes that would male 3 years in a row.

How often can you be on the cusp before you give up. We have been on the cusp for the past decade. Time to get over that hump or move on

I don't recall this team as being a true playoff contender in 2012, Miami was ranked 32nd in the league in pre season rankings all over that year. Yeah, we were in discussion for the 6th seed throughout midseason, but come week 12 we were out with four games remaining. Last season was the first where we really got close enough to see it come to fruition, but fell on their faces against mediocre rivals to unfortunately send us back to reality.

I cannot bet against myself in hoping that Philbin makes this year work. think about a potential change. More new guys wanting their guys, as opposed to what we have. Let's go to the extreme with a new guy wanting a 3-4 D, and a power blocking scheme.

as for the defense, give us a NT and we're game for a 3-4. even today.

I was horribly, horribly upset with the last two games. I understand why we lost to the Bills given their D-line completely over matched our O-line. But the Jets loss was inexcusable! That being said....you're overreacting.

5000 vcash says Philbin will still be the Head Coach of the Miami Dolphins in 2015.

I will take that if you think we finish 9-7 or worse and no playoffs. But I think this is a playoff team and if we are of course philbin is retained

No...First off Hickey has at least a 2 yr contract. Next, Ross won't penalize him for having to use FA and the draft to retroactively dig out from Ireland's mess. Finally, as part of his signing agreement, I sure wouldn't bet against an included guarantee from Ross that if the team underperformed at a given level, Hickey will have the freedom to fire Joe and replace him with a HC of his own choosing.

If we finish this season in a way similar to the way we finished last season, Philbin is toast. But I don't see any scenario where Hickey only gets one year.

If we miss playoffs why would we can one and not the other? Why would a new coach want an unproven gm?
