NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell did not rule out a suspension for Giants guard John Jerry for his role in the Miami Dolphins BullyGate mess last season, but remained vague on any punishment, calling it “a broad issue.”
So far the NFL has done nothing to penalize the three players named in investigator Ted Wells’ exhaustive report -- including Richie Incognito, Mike Pouncey and Jerry, who was named more than 100 times – except to mandate that they undergo counseling before they’d be allowed to resume their careers. Asked about possible discipline on Friday, Goodell said “There are different issues with different individuals. The bottom line is everything is proceeding and they are doing everything they have been asked to do. We will make individual decisions, if necessary, with any one of those individuals.”
Goodell also made it sound like Incognito has been more cooperative than the other two.
“I would say the one person that has been very responsive and gone through the program is Richie Incognito,” Goodell said. “We are working with his people and monitoring his progress and it’s gone well.”
