Is Saban the right choice?

I don't know enough about Saban to develop an actual statement about him. What I can add is, you guys are setting your expectations very, very high.

Wagon Circler, I know you probably won't do this, but I want you to read Nick Saban's book "How Good Do you Want to Be?".

And I don't want you to read it just so you will all of a sudden fear or even respect Nick.

From one football fan to another, I want you to read it to enjoy it. It really is great. Makes you jacked up for some pigskin even if you aren't a Dolphins or LSU fan.

It really is worth reading.

Personally with the talent we continue to carry into this year. I don't think a 6-10 or 8-8 season is setting our expectations too high. I may be a homer, but we are not that different of a team talent wise from 2003. I blame last year mainly on the coaching chages. There was absolutely to coherency on the team that I could see.

I just can't see us going in reverse this year and we were in almost all of our games last year. Even with all the confusion.
Oh, make no mistake about it, I think 6-10 to 8-8 is perfectly reasonable. Although, I think 8-8 would be a tremendous first year for this team.

I'd make an effort to read it if I didn't occupy so much time reading your posts. :D

Why? Didn't the Bills go from 3-13 to 8-8? Thinking the Dolphins can go 8-8 is not being a homer.

I guess that is where we differ in our oppinions. I think 8-8 is actually the the "mid" point on where we will land. I see 6-10 if things go bad and 9-7 if things go well. I definitely cannot clame 10-6 if things go well, there are too many variables for that. But there is no way I can see this team finishing worse than 6-10. And with my homer vision and seeing the talent on the team... I have a hard time seeing us not finishing at least 8-8.

I am of the belief we WILL prove the critics wrong that have us picking in the top 5. I just can't see it happening. Call it homerism, pride, or whatever else you want to call it, but I DO think we will surprise alot of teams this year.

You will have proven them wrong if you finish 8-8. From every prediction article I have read, people don't have much faith in the dolphins.

Except for The Sporting News annual. They have us finishing 3rd and the bills 4th ;)

Oh yeah, lol, I saw that. 4-12 for the bills, that's a bold prediction. I think if our entire offense became lepers and our defense had to play both sides of ball, they still would manage to win more than four games.

I have a feeling that you shouldn't trust your feelings.

Our complete organization needed an upgrade. Those upgrades will take time to develop. Saban plays an important role...but it's not a one man show.

Saban is clearly an upgrade...and until proven otherwise...we need to stick with that reality.

I don't know man, I don't think Takeo Spikes would be able to take some of his own medicine.

As a QB, I don't think he'd be able to read a 3-4 scheme with Zach Thomas breathing down his neck in a blitzing situation. :D

At any rate, Takeo would be hard to sack at qb.

I realize that. And I look forward to hopefully making them look like fools. I know darn well this is the NFL and anything can happen. So I will never toss out a guarentee. But if you take a step back and look at the talent on the team, not too much has changed.

The thing that has changed though is the predictabily of this team. Good luck scheming for a defens that lines up in 4-3 man to man coverage this year. The dolfins used that base defense almost religiously the last 5 years, it wasn't until Wannstedt(retired/got canned) that you saw a 4-3 man-over scheme.

This year the defense will shift from man-over to 3-4 to bear with the same personel on the field. It is not going to be easy to predict where the pressure is coming from. To me that makes Jason Taylor even more dangerous.

On to the offense. If Hudson is already sold on 4 of the 5 offesive line, then I think we are in for a treat this year. Heck 3 of the 4 confirmed starters are talents from last year, so he must see something there.

It's getting late and I will stop there so I don't go into a rambling session, more so than I have already at least.
