As I posted last nite in the game thread, this team is lacking so much at nearly every offensive position that an 8-8 record would be an extreme overacheivement. Realistically, this season will probably end with a record of around 5-11 if the best team possible is played every week.

I think it's time to give up on the 2004 campaign already (it appears our front office did that many months ago...but I don't believe it was intentional) and start working to rebuild this team.

To start that process.....

*Don't give up any draft picks or young talent to acquire another scrap heap running back or reciever at this point....save these building blocks of the future to help bring this team back to the top as soon as possible.

*Consider trading a few of the veterans who may only have one or two years left in the league. Someone like Madison may be able to net us a second or third round draft pick at this point and salary cap saved next year could hopefully be used to help us address some gaping needs with upcoming talent.

*Commit as much playing time as possible to some of the young players on this team including the rookies. Let's try to "season" them as quickly as possible and find out how much talent these guys have....those that have none can find a new place to earn a paycheck after this season.

I know that moves like this may make us even worse for this campaign ahead and could lead to an embarrasing record of something like 2-14. However, I'd rather do that and have the components in place to rebuild quickly....than to endure several years of mediocrity (or worse).

Anyone who thinks this team is playoff caliber this year is truly looking through rose colored glasses. Anyone who thinks it has a chance to win the Super Bowl is blind.

The commitment to rebuild needs to begin as soon as possible....not after the season.

It's time to give up already? Whats wrong with you? How can you give up already when the season has not even started yet? You want to have no faith thats fine but dont try and tell the real fans that this season is over before it even begins!

Trading veterans in this league is almost impossible. For one most teams stay near or at the salary cap limit so to add a player of any value via trade is impossible. And the teams who stay far under the cap usually are the dog teams who aren't looking to add a vet player via trade.

How in the world can anyone give up on the season before even 1 game is played is beyond me?

Did anyone pick the Panthers last year to win anything? In 2001-2002 the Pats were picked dead last by everyone! Who had the Rams the year they won it all? NOBODY!

Im not saying Miami is going to win the Super Bowl, but to throw in the towel AFTER the preseason......the friggin preseason is just flat out stupid!

can the season get about eight games old first, i have seen other teams play in the preseason, nobody it that good right now

Well at least the Pats haven't given up on draft picks . They know how to draft well. Unlike Wanny. But that is why he got canned from that. And their coaching is way better than ours. But I agree it is way to early to give up yet. Who knows maybe in desperation Wanny trys things different to help save his job.

please .........

Miami certanily has challenges this year , the front office is accutely aware of this.

They have not however given up. They are and will balance decisions on trades , playing time etc. on the long term as well as the short term ( this season )

But PLEASE !!!!! Be informed before you make statements like " trade Madison " If you are passionate about the Dolphins , read and become up to speed on things.... Miami can not trade Madison ( or others ) due to the cap hit they would take ....Miami WILL not dump talent , take a huge cap hit , and look several years down the road....

The front office will be both prudent and aggresive in order to maximize the productivity this team displays.... you have some points but please be realistic and become informed..........

The draft is overrated. The first New England team that won the super bowl was put together by free agents for the most part (Cox, T-Buck, Izzo, A.Smith, Patten, ..etc)

Tampa when they won theirs was also a team built via free agency (Keyshawn, Pittman, B.Johnson, Rice...etc)

While you need to draft well, you can build a winner through free agency and just sprinkle in guys from the draft. Not the other way around like most believe.

I for one, am not about to give up. And to say the FO gave up a couple of months ago is crazy. The FO traded Ogun to get a top receiver opposite Chambers. The FO states they are looking to upigrade the running game without paying a high price. Why don't you give up on your significant other now and start planning for next year. You're not going to because of your love for that person. If you really love the Dolphins, you won't give on them.

yeah well we have given up way to many draft picks and are getting older. And if you look at draft picks we got this year there could be a couple of diamonds in there. Granted i like some of the pickups we got by some of those draft picks. And I think we could do better if we actually had first and second rounders to draft with.

The difference is with those teams is that they were on the upswing...its just that most people thought they were a year or two away from doing anything. This team is on the downswing and missing many major components.

Without an offensive line, its tough to develop much of a passing game and impossible to have a running attack. This team will likely finish the league last in rushing and would have still been in the bottom 10-12 if Ricky was still around. When no holes are being developed, it doesn't matter who you have in the backfield.

I would love to have cause of optimism this season....but the more I look, the more dismal it becomes.

I guarantee you that if Wanny had been canned...the new coach this year would be playing for the future as he would see no possibilities to accomplish anything this year.

As it stands though, Dave's future is this year and he'll pull out all the stops to try and accomplish a miracle. It won't happen and unfortunately this team will be set back another year in it's rebuilding as a result.

I know my opinion may be very unpopular now....but I bet most people will agree that this year is hopeless after about 4 weeks. If the organization would face that fact now, it could greatly help us in building towards the future.

if we still had ricky williams, we would all seriously be talking about the superbowl.
one player is not the difference between a 3-13 team and a superbowl winner.
