Ja´Wuan James vs Alabama, South Carolina & Oregon

TedSlimmJr, who probably is more of an astute clinical evluator of college-level skills and how they translate at the next level than the overwhelming majority of armchairers on this site and generally more critical in lambasting our moves than most, from the perspective of watching James play his Crimson Tide for 4 years, declares James to be a good pick, given our needs and where we drafted, stating his selection does a good job in filling a critical dire need observing that James can sure play -with some of his skills being off the charts. Ted's certainly not always right, but his batting avg is a helluva lot more trustworthy than many within the crowing cacophony of condemnation driven by appetite for bright shiny trinkets. http://www.finheaven.com/showthread.php?354313-WalterFootball-com-Day-1-winners-amp-losers-Yup-Dolphins-are-losers&p=1065072695#post1065072695

You do realize that if he is able to cut the right side of the lines sacks in half, we might actually score a lot more this season? So he might actually correspond with increased scoring production.
And we can hire a ham and egger FA to do the same thing. Or take a ORT in the 2nd or third that can do the job better...Or scheme to move RT around..
What we DON'T have is playmakers.

I've been watching videos of him since last night and i am very impressed. Seems to just neutralize DE's. He's not a dominant space clearing OT, but will keep Tanny upright during pass plays. Very impressed.

But....but we could have gotten him 48 picks later.

Judging from his twitter, ck likes him as a player too.

watched a little bit... dude can move. Not sure about his downfield blocking but he seems to take his man out of the play when he engages.

Got to admit alcohol induced anger last night with our pick but watched a lot of tape today and think the guys a player. Rarely got beat. Constantly good. Happier with the pick today than last night for sure.

Told the VIP chat last night the same. Youtube footage shows solid player. Mechanics are worrisome. He's awkward. But he gets it done.

Can a mod devise a pop up announcing that all of finheaven is aware that James was a reach. Sone posters may still be under the influence and believe they are breaking and re-breaking news.

Those who are crying need to realize that IF Hickey pulls only two players from this draft who START as three down players AND are GOOD vs. mediocre, he will have done something that Ireland completely failed to do last year w. 11 picks.

And throughout his career drafting for the Phins, lol.

Most people crying their eyes out over this pick are really crying over the failure of their buddy Ireland.

If he hadn't left the team in such dire straights, Hickey is not forced into "safely" taking James at 19. Great teams can roll the dice every year, trading down or picking up injured or project players. Sorry teams -- if they want to be rebuilt -- have to make every draft pick count.

Make em count, Hickey. Do something that Ireland never could do: Get a second round player that's an impact player. Maybe even a third rounder to make impact.

Maybe we can be a couple games above .500 this year.

And how many times can you recall Ireland critics adamantly declaring that we would have been better off as a franchise heeding the evals of our own site draft gurus? If the shoe fits.........

LD is right. Love/defend Ireland all you want but the fact that we are pleading, praying, begging for a mere 2 (just freakin 2) solid starters puts it all in perspective.

Judging by the majority of the posts in the last 18 hours , I think it's safe to assume most of the posters were going to catch a bad case of brain worms, regardless of who the Dolphins selected, if it wasn't their player or position of choice. Glad to hear some of finheaven's more intelligent posters condone the selection.

Let's look at some of the top teams in the league the past few years..

49ers- took Anthony Davis in the first round
Ravens- took Michael Oher in the first round
Patriots- took Sebastian Vollmer in the second round
Broncos- took Orlando Franklin in the second round
Bengals- took Andre Smith in the first round

All of them hit besides Oher. But even he had a stretch of pretty good play for a year or two and just got a 4 year 20 million dollar contract

I find it best during the draft to come back a day later to read the more rational posts. The quick overreaction you get immediately following a pick is depressing.

This was a pure NEED pick, he's not, and everyone knows it, a #19 pick for any other team. He is RAW, and a pure RT who will never play LT. So the Fins went Best RT available, period end of story. The question is can fins coach him up because in all those clips I noticed he missed a lot, didnt sustain, and had trouble at POA vs DE's, but he could move to 2nd level.
He will be a serviceable RT but will get toasted by pass rushing DE's in NFL (see Buffalo game).

Hickey must do something in 2nd and 3rd to make an impact on this roster, so far, he merely plugged a hole, didnt "improve" the team per se from a W/L column.

many people who do football for a living would disagree with you. for example: "Even though he played on the right side, WalterFootball.com knows sources who feel James has the skill set to potentially play left tackle in the NFL," from here: http://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2014jjames.php

this seems to be the prevailing sentiment of many in the know. don't be surprised when he moves from RT to LT when albert is done here.
