Jared Odrick: Underrated.

It was not one of Ireland's better deals. He got a guy that was hurt his first year, and is just now starting to be a "decent" contributor. He also got a guy in Misi that we have had to shuffle around to find out where he fits, because he sucked at where they first put him. Even now, if we had a decent LB core...the guy would be footnote.

"Decent rookie season???" He was hurt and didn't play his rookie year...

I must also be wrong based on all the playoff games we won...

Coaching changes and drastic changes in philosophy along with a raw qb had NOTHING to do with it?

With all the talent KC had, your basis of using playoff games won....shows a team with great talent is loaded with NFL busts. Great reasoning.

I like Pee Wee, and thought the played very well last season. PFF ranked him at #14 overall of all DT/NT's last year. On the pass rush, he was #6 with 5 sacks, 13 hits, and 28 hurries. This tied him with Starks with 4- 6 and 30. On the run, he was #23.

His game improved a lot in his first year at DT, which is where many thought he would be best. In 2012, he was a 4-3t DE and fair, and in 2011, he was a 3-4 DE and about the same. Granted, he was surrounded by a lot of talent on our DL but, thought he played much better than solid as a 4-3 DT. I expect a big year from him in 2014.

Why the hate, Dr Phin? I disagree 100%. Jared Odrick is a good contributor and a leader on the team. I hope that we re-sign him to a long term contract (but not for ridiculous money). Jared is a keeper.
OK - Earl Thomas was maybe a better Draft pick, but we still got a very good player. You need to put the past behind. Remember we got Odrick and Koa Misi for the pick that the Chargers selected Ryan Matthews. I'd say that this was actually one of Ireland's more successful deals after giving up so much to get Brandon Marshall. We weren't always on the winning end of the negotiations.

Most people on this board expect too much from a first round pick. They expect the player to be second coming. That is the problem.

aj green wishes his game was that physical and that much of a red zone win option...greens great his games just very finesse and he doesnt dominate in the red zone like bryant does

He's not as physical as Bryant, but he's taller, faster and quicker. He's the better player. Look at what he's done wearing a target and with Andy Dalton throwing him the ball.

Because Romo is that much better? :chuckle:

all things being equal bryants the better player...you can run more iso routes with success in the red zone with bryant and he's a much more difficult tackle...

i think you can take green out of games more by bracketing him cause of his finesse style...

anyways i havent seen a overall prospect on dez bryants level since he came out...dez was a punishing collegiate player that carried piles and fought for the football...explosive tape

i'd say green was the 2nd best looking prospect though at wr...and worthy himself of a top 5 pick...just a different skill set

Julio Jones is better, and more physical than both of those guys.

jones is hurt more...i will give you that

we are splitting hairs a little here

Agreed. It's all a matter of preference. Jones is the most physically explosive but he's also a bit straightlineish and imo doesn't show great running instincts. He's sort of a Terrell Owens with a bit more speed (and a better head on his shoulders, obviously), whereas Bryant is like an Anquan Boldin with better speed (with a worse head on his shoulders).

AJ Green on the other hand is kind of a supersized Reggie Wayne/Greg Jennings type. That's always been my favorite kind of receiver (more versatile, tend to be more durable), so I prefer Green. I didn't think it was too much of a competition between him and Jones when they came out.

Of course we are

In all seriousness, I had 3 guys on my list in 2010. Dez Bryant, Earl Thomas and Brandon Graham (who I believed to be a glove fit as the SOLB in the 3-4 we were running). The ideal of trading down when all 3 of these guys were on the board still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Four years is a very long time to keep a bad taste, and should not have an effect on what Odrick has done. Try a bottle of Irish whiskey to get rid of it. lol

As far as the WR's, we have Wallace, who is going to score more TD's than any of the above this year. I know this because that is what he said. :)

When you watch the best FS and arguably the best young WR in the game do things at positions of need for us . . . it just defines the type of mindset we had and the reason why we have underachieved for so long. I mean we traded down to draft what was already arguably our strongest position on the team and passed on difference makers at the skill positions.

It sucks . . . it doesn't take anything away from Jared Odrick, who is a good player, but when you have a chance to take a top 5 BPA, you do have to make that move. This team has lacked difference makers and were allergic to them for quite some time.

Not doing better than Jared Odricks is why Dolphins fans have had a bad taste in their mouth for 24 years. More like 34 years, actually. Not being able to point to his draft position as part of the evaluation is like saying that it shouldn't be part of the evaluation of a running back that he's making, say, $10 million a year. It's not just a talent evaluation, it's a cost/benefit analysis.

Like I said, I like Odrick. He's a high effort guy and a capable all around defender. But he's also -- at best -- the fifth DT in our division. I'd actually put him sixth, behind Starks, Wilkerson, Richardson, Dareus and Kyle Williams (I'm sure a few Patriots fans would quibble about me putting him above Wilfork, but at this point he's the better player, imo). I mean, if you really want to talk underrated, the guy you're looking for is Kyle Williams. He's the fastest DT off the ball the NFL has seen since Leon Lett.

When the player you want to flag as being underrated is fifth or sixth at his position in his own division... it speaks volumes about why we continue to have the kinds of seasons we have.

I do completely agree but, have moved on. I'm up to disagreeing with moves last year, and this year.
