Jason Cole: Dolphins concerned about Tannehill

Mike Sherman wasn't a scapegoat. He did a poor job and needed to be replaced. The Packers and aTm fans who warned us of what was to come were all absolutely right.

Even many posters on this site who are highly critical of the QB (and I'm not going to name names because I don't want to drag them into it, but if you look you'll find them easily enough) agree that Sherman used his talent poorly and made some baffling decisions.

I challenged junc to stand behind his opinion that the Fins OL was pretty good during the second half of the season before they had made any changes on the OL. I tried to bet him that they would replace the LT, LG, RG, and RT. If they didn't replace 4 of 5 players on a "pretty good" OL, I would ban myself for a year. If they did, he would ban himself for a year. He declined to accept the challenge. Obviously the opinion of those who thought the OL was still crap was proven correct by the actions of the team. Unfazed, junc continues to spout the same nonsense.

It's too bad Philbin will most likely be sacrificed with him. I think they should look at how Philbin manages his team as a whole this year. If he improves his relationship with the players, I think he should get a shot with another QB. IMO he has put a lot of the right football people in place compared to others we have seen in the past 15 years. There are other coaches out there that I like, but I always thought part of our problem was the merry go round. We need stability and I think you give a guy a shot with 2 QB's for sure, unless it's a Wannstedt / Cam Cameron / Sparano type of fiasco.
Please god no. Philbin isn't some blameless victim if his hand picked QB doesn't pan out. What exactly has Philbin done to get you excited about the prospects of giving him 3 more years with another QB?

I just don't understand the blind love for Philbin from some around here.

How many projects go on to be great QBs? 1 in a 100? 1 in a 1000? In which round would should they have drafted one? Didn't they have bigger concerns? Hell the projects at LB are much more important.

That's the excuse every year. It doesn't matter if not many late round QBs end up being great. That doesn't mean you don't try at all. QBs are a commodity. Successful teams know this and take a flyer on a guy later in the draft.

It's blind love for anyone who works for the Dolphins. Pretty pathetic.

"Hartline is a legit #2!"
"They never should've traded Bess!"
"Henne needs one more year!"
"Ireland isn't that bad! He just needs time!"

And on and on...

And drafting QBs isn't free. They cost you picks that might be better spent on other players.

Why you and others continue to go back and forth with him is baffling to me. You could tell him the sky is blue and he'll have an argument against it.

i agree with that and was hoping they at least used a late round pick on one regardless of having Tannehill. KC got Murray from UG in the fifth. That would have been my choice. Every year we should bring someone in because you never know if he's the next Tom Brady.

Like I said, that's the excuse every year. There will always be holes regardless of the team. The salary cap ensures that. At some point you need to draft QB projects. History proves that it's the smart move.

Many years ago I used to be in the "they know more than we do, they do this for a living" camp. Well, they proved me wrong. I know diddly about college ball, yet every year I look at players I'd want on the team based on what I read only to see them go elsewhere and shine while we get Egnew.

I have no faith in any GM who works here until proven otherwise.

Yeah lets waste picks every year because ONE team in the history of the NFL got lucky in the 6th round... Go play the lotto ffs...

My point is QB is the most important position so you should always be looking for the next guy up. Instead we kept Delvin around knowing he could not even compete for #2.

QB is the most important position, well then draft a QB in the first when you need one... And when you do, don't freak out in his 3rd year pre-season when he posts a 86 QBR...

they're worried about what the hell he was looking at when he threw into triple coverage.

get away from your blankie....Gibson Matthews is your friend.

I'm good will Tannehill. Never said I wasn't.
Having Brady has not stopped New England from bring in other QB's and having Tannehill should not stop us from doing the same.

Teams have had success using the same strategy I'm describing. It doesn't matter if they become great or not. If one ends up being great then fantastic. The GM looks like a genius. Even if the QB is serviceable, he's a commodity that can be traded.

I don't know why this has to be explained in detail every single time I bring it up. You follow football, don't you? This isn't some wild and crazy phenomenon that teams haven't had success with.
