Jason Cole of Yahoo: No Doubt Miami takes Tannehill

But in Rivers and Eli's case, the Chargers and Giants had established starters already in place in Drew Brees and Kurt Warner at that time. They could afford to sit them right off the bat. I don't remember who the QB was for the Bengals though. But the Dolphins don't have an established QB already in place like those others did. That is the big difference.

Brees was considered a bust at the time, which is why the Chargers were targeting QB with that 1st pick. They wanted Eli, but he refused to play for them. Brees surprised everyone by playing exceptionally well during River's rookie season. He hasn't looked back since then

Tannehill is drawing lots of interest. The only trade up I see happening would be with JAX as I dont see any of the other teams want to give up the chance of drafting one of the elite 6. Tampa Bay will draft richardson or claiborne and one of them will be there. Rams would take anyone of the elite that falls to them. One reason they were willing to trade with WASH. JAX is the wildcard in the whole situation.

Agree. I'm OK with Tannehill, but at the 8th position. I would call Cleveland's bluff. I think they are trying to rev up interest hoping someone gives them a Washington Redskins type of deal.
I would be surprised if Ireland caved in. He's endured much criticism, but he usually holds his ground and sticks to his evaluations.

The QB for the Bengals was Jon Kitna.

Since 2008, 11 QBs were drafted in the 1st round and six of those started the first game of their respected season with only Joe Flacco being the only one not drafted in the Top 5 to do so.

The starting QBs for the four teams not to start their Top 10 drafted rookie QB since 2008 are Byron Leftwich in Tampa Bay, Kyle Orton in Denver, Matt Hasselbeck in Tennessee and Luke McCown in Jacksonville.

They were veterans, but were not the franchise's future QB. Moore could be looked the same way. He obviously does not have the experience that Warner had, but he can carry the load in the short term. If not Moore, maybe Garrard?

i really hope we do draft him at 8 .he is the 3rd best QB in the draft and luck is suspose to be the next sure thing.so why not take a shot on the 3rd best guy at a position we need

Tannehill is NOT worth the 8th overall pick!!!! He's a 2nd rounder for crying out loud!!!
It's simple, really. Ireland, Philbin, and Sherman have most likely already had this conversation. If they believe they can groom Tannhell to be a franchise QB, then that's the guy they should take, no matter what they have to do to get him. If they have to trade up to #3 or take him at #8, so be it. Last year's draft alone proves that the teams are going to overdraft QBs every year; a combination of supply and demand as well as the rule changes favoring QBs and WRs.

If Tannehill becomes a franchise QB, no one cares where he was drafted. It's time for this front office to stand up, have conviction, and FINALLY draft a QB in the first round. The undervaluing of the QB position by this team has to stop.

I hate to say it because Jason Cole is usually wrong, but I share his opinion of the situation. The Browns have been trying to sucker the Dolphins into a trade up. Stand your ground Ireland.

If the Dolphins draft another o-linemen in Round 1 this team can just pack up and move. If you think NO FANS go to the games now, the few they have left will stop paying to go see them. They are down to 33,000 season tickets sold, 10 years ago they were pushing 70,000 season tickets sold. How many 1st round picks can you WASTE on o-linemen when you have glaring holes at WR, QB, TE...etc.

What Matt Millen was to WR's in Detroit; Ireland will become to offensive linemen in Miami. PICK ANOTHER POSITION!!

Mike you couldn't be more wrong with your last quote!

Matt Millen drafted terrible wide recievers (even thoy Roy Williams was good his first few years, WTF has happened to him since his last year in Detroit), where as the 2, 1st round lineman Ireland drafted are Elite, and were the absolute best players at their respective positions in the entire draft, and, all those best players did was come in immediately, start and perform like they should.

I do agree with you and many poster's here about our glaring needs, but if they are, or aren't convinced about said QB, then they need to draft the best player according to their board. From what I have seen from Ireland's 1st round board's are, that he is very good at drafting in the first round! Each player has become a core starter and producer. The 2nd round hasn't been so good for him, why everyone wants the trade down is a little mind boggling considering all the failures selected in that second round. Hopefully this year he can take that 1st round success and parlay it into the 2nd and 3rd rounds as well.

Tannehill is already proficient in Shermans NFL Offense. He can read defenses already and has athletic accurate strong throwing arm. Who cares if he sits a year? If Moore or Gerrard fail this year he may start the last few games of the year. If philly wants to trade up and grab him we can always trade down to number 11-14 pick and take weeden.

You statement concerning Tannehill and being proficient in the Sherman's NFL offense, is completely absurd. I guess winning 4 games in the BIG 12 is something you consider proficient. Or losing leads in the 2nd half in 5 games, proficient. This game is about winning. Something he failed to do this past year, which led to Sherman and his proficient NFL offense to being fired.

I understand your thought process, but I disagree. There are several "franchise" QB's who did not start season 1, game 1. Eli, Philip Rivers, Carson Palmer. They all sat, watched and learned the NFL. I think with Moore and a new coaching staff, we may have the ability for Tannehill to sit at first. I still would think that there would be an open competition at camp and if Tannehill won the job then great, but IMHO he does not have to be a day one starter no matter where he is picked.

Since 2008, you draft a TOP 10 QB, they Start!

Cutler was a loser in College playing for Vanderbilt. Remember him. Hes not too shabby in the NFL. You dont have much of a point. Eli played for ole Miss and the gators. That college was not a dynasty. Flacco is from Delaware. I am sure he got his butt kicked olaying DIV 1 schools.

Now I'm personally behind Tannehill if our coaches want him. However, that said, isn't it ironic that so many of the Moore detractors who criticize him for not carrying late leads or beating winning teams are mindlessly in the "underperforming-so-what?" wide open Big 12 "draft Tannehill" movement? Disingenuous si, but just another day at FH
