Jason Cole: Set up to FAIL

We can blame Sparano, Ireland, Philbin or now Aponte. There is always somebody you can blame who is an underling. It always comes down to Ross being either too absentee or incompetent.

When you're an absentee owner it's impossible to see what the underlings are doing all the time. You have to go by what people tell you to make an evaluation of the character of the people working for you.

I bet you every owner that is at the facility daily has no questions what peoples roles will be. He will have seen the dynamics first hand.

I don't know where people are getting this idea of him getting in the way as he is the owner of the team. He fired the GM because he wasn't getting the job done and we should applaud him for that but everyone wants him to fire everybody like that is going to solve everything.

Its not going to matter what the power structure is because in the end he still wields the power as the top guy and everybody will eventually have to report to him regardless. This will benefit because whoever the GM is knows exactly who he reports to Not Philbin or Aponte but to Ross himself.

Now if Philbin or Aponte drive a wedge between the GM and Ross then i don't think its going to work because this is really Philbin's last shot I think as head coach for this team if there is no improvement next year. That's why this is a perfect spot for a GM as he will be the last person standing if everything crumbles next year becuase Ross will have no choice but to clean out the HC spot.

How is it that the negative coverage and attitude towards this team actually increased after Ireland was fired? Unreal

because they all know something. Not hard to understand really.

You see, you bag on a man, better watch your back.

Oh he is not absentee owner. He has Dawn.

I wouldn't say toxic is the right word. The one candidate said he was quite sure what Miami wanted from their GM and others have said that that is indeed an issue until people actually hear what Ross wants from his GM.

The bigger issue is that the candidates don't know exactly what they're being asked to do when interviewing.

Really we won't know for sure until somebody gets the job.

For the record this is what Darlington says

Jeff Darlington ‏@JeffDarlington 1h
Dolphins' Steve Ross: "New GM will have autonomous responsibility for 53-man roster and selecting players during draft. Will report to me."

Jeff Darlington ‏@JeffDarlington 1h
Since it's a bit of a quarter word, autonomous means "acting independently or having the freedom to do so." New GM will get to act alone.

Jeff Darlington ‏@JeffDarlington 1h
This blends with everything I've heard about Miami's search for a GM: They aren't hiring someone to report to Dawn Aponte or Joe Philbin.

Jeff Darlington ‏@JeffDarlington 1h
I'll say it again: Philbin is a respected coach. Tannehill is a respected young QB. There are plenty of worthy candidates who like this job.

Jeff Darlington ‏@JeffDarlington 1h
I pity any worthy candidate who would pass an opportunity to interview for one of 32 GM jobs because of outside perceptions. That's foolish.

Now for the record, I think Darlington gives the best news but I understand some will look at it as a fluff piece. But let's be honest here. Will the fact that people like Aponte, Philbin, and Gaine being here turn some people away? Sure. But do I believe for a second that the situation is as bleak as Jason Cole makes it out to be? No. But we're going to believe what we want to believe.

At the end of the day though there are only 32 GM positions in the NFL and while you could be a hot candidate 1 year, you may not get another look. You can only be so picky

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Ireland is gone and that's a good thing.
The dude picked talent like Ray Charles picked linen patterns.

Stopped reading at this post. Im astounded as well. Nothing more to read nor needs saying.

Whose in charge of our publicity? That braintrust needs to be canned immediately so we can bring in some House of Lies type consulting asap.

True or not, does it matter? Message perceived is message achieved. With all of this out there, the perception becomes the reality. Cursed, i tell you. Im starting to feel sorry for our beloved team much more than i feel frustrated with them.

Yeah, not sure why anyone would be scared of Aponte. It seems to me, she'll only get involved, when it comes to the cap. The new GM will suggest players he wants, and let Aponte figure out if we can afford them. That's it. It's not like the new GM will have to go to Aponte and see if she thinks the players are a good fit. People are just blowing things way out of proportion. GM's can come in and work with an existing Head Coach. It's happened before, and Philbin is a new HC in the big scheme of things, I don't think Philbin is so stuck in his ways, that he won't listen the the GM.

If the stories are true that seems to be far from the truth. She seems very capable of getting involved in situations she has no business being in. What went on between Ireland and Philbin should have stayed between the two of them and the owner. She apparently was more than willing to run to daddy to tell on Ireland.

I don't see why a candidate would avoid the job - it's not like there are a million GM jobs available and these guys have big egos - big enough to say, "I'll build a winner" and then the GMs stock goes up internally and externally. Philbin and Aponte are constants from last two years and we didn't win enough. We go to the playoffs and the only thing that changes is the GM. Doesn't that reflect well on them if this happens?

We don't need a GM and personnel guy in the same cloth. It's better that Aponte is the GM cause she is also the contracts person and should be in charge of hiring and firing the Director of personnel and the coach. That is a more stable structure. Phins really only need Director of Personnel.

I couldn't disagree more. She's not qualified to have any say in what players should be placed on this team. She is simply qualified to approve the contracts with the agents and our GM and then to run that info to our owner and give him the Dolphins contract options. IMO a GM has to be a personnel person 1st and a #'s person after. In her case she doesn't have any player personnel qualifications. She's a glorified accountant as far as I can see.
