Jason Cole: Tom Gamble said to be Ross' top pick for GM

Rumor: Miami has 4 interviews lined up, but names aren't confirmed yet
I wonder if one of those four includes relatively unknown John Scotland?

as of 2 hours ago we had not reached out about interviewing Gamble. But it sounds like they have reached out to Alonzo Highsmith.

Sounds like Highsmith REALLY wants the job

As a kid who grew up in Miami and played his college football at the University of Miami he probably wants the heck out of that frozen tundra...can you blame him? You're from Wisconsin lol.

I'M NOT FROM WISCONSIN. I'm PA born and bred

What a dream come true it would be for him to GM his hometown team. He'd probably kick-ass.

I've heard he's a good scout, but Jeff Ireland wasn't a bad scout either.

What we need is someone who can assemble a complete roster.

A small -- perhaps insignificant -- biographical note. Tom Gamble and current Packers head coach Mike McCarthy served on the same staff together for a year. After the 2004 season, Tom Gamble left the Colts organization to take a job with the 49ers. That year -- 2005 -- was the one year Mike McCarthy spent as the offensive coordinator of the 49ers.

McCarthy and Philbin are -- obviously -- close, which means that Philbin (and, it can't be underestimated, Gamble) have knowledge of each other through the same first hand source. Gamble and Alonzo Highsmith would also be able to hear about each other through McCarthy, if perhaps Ross was able to lure them both to Miami to work together.

Like any business, football is based on relationships. I'm glad to see at least some exist here, if perhaps second hand.

John Scotland looks a bit like Dick Dastardly of Wacky Racers. He looks a bit suspicious but probably inspires great hope and loyalty...
If an NFL gig doesn't transpire maybe he could become a televangelist

Right now there are only two GM openings.

Us and the Bucs.

Which one is a better job?
Bucs may have more talent but have notoriously cheapskate owners. Also they are in a more difficult division right now.

Ironically both places have already coaches in place.

The Bucs owners, the Glazer brothers also happen to own Manchester United.
In fact they are so cheapskate that they paid Darrelle Revis only $16 Million last season. Yes, that equates to $1M per game.

If Gamble is the choice, I'll renew and up my season tickets for '14 the following day. You have my word, Ross.
