Jeff Fisher “paying close attention” to NFL this year

I'd be down for Fisher over Sparano. But Daboll has show promise, I'd let him try to learn under an experienced guy like Fisher. And Nolan's been a defensive mind for a long time, I don't understand the deal with him now

Sedano on 790theticket made this argument the other day.

He said Fischer has fire in him because he never won the SB. He got to a SB and lost. He also did a good job with a young Steve McNair and Vince Young.

He said guys like Bill Cowher would be terrible hirings because they have nothing left to prove and they are now used to the cushy laid back lifestyle. Their fire is gone. He said it would be like Jimmy Johnson again. Jimmy said the hardest part about coming back to coaching with the Dolphins was the 16 hour workdays again. They come back, have to go back to 16 hour workdays, and then realize all this stress is not worth it when they burn themselves out because they don't NEED to.

I agree with him about finding a guy who has a lot to prove still, but I don't know if that guy is Fischer. He made good points. You can listen to that podcast on their website.

I prefer an experienced head coach but its hard not to look at the success of some of the younger coaches like Sean Payton and Mike Tomlin. To me a successful coach has to maintain the players will to win and hire the right coordinators that are young, innovative (but not gadget happy), and hungry. Then we need a GM that can evaluate talent and get the right FA and draft players and find a good mix of talent and value. Not every player can be a superstar but some superstars surrounded by a cohesive team allows them to be successful year after year (like the friggin Pats, Steelers, etc). I dont care what the hell they do, just freakin win ... I'm tired of waiting for next year.

Fisher had 6 winning seasons, 5 break even seasons and 6 losing seasons. . he is mediocre at best and we need better than middle of the road, middle of the road wont win our division or a SB trophy!!

NEXT!!

Don't like Fisher, way overrated on this board. Hes just a "great coach" due to his longevity in the league.

6 seasons below .500
Career .542 winning percent
5 seasons at 8-8
6 seasons with a winning record
5-6 in the playoffs

So he had 6 wining seasons and 11 being average or below average.

DOn't get why everyone thinks he's so great. 6 winning seasons in 15. Went to one superbowl and lost and has lost alot of early playoff games. and when they didn't ahve a winning receord they sucked. I mean look at his first 4 years as coach? Tony did better than him. Will Tony's 5th year turn into 13-3. No and I think Tony will be gone and most likely should be along with Ireland but I don't think Fisher is my guy.

Lebeau was put in place by Cowher, great leaders know to hire people smarter than themselves so they all succeed.

Precisely why I've advocated patience. Similar situations: Fisher entered as interim of a team that was gutted after Moon left.

Cowher is no "great leader" in my book. He's a lot like Sparano IMO: great motivator but little else.

no thanks on Fisher.....this guy's tendencies aren't needed here. In his entire tenure coaching for Tennessee outside of McNair, only put together a beast d-line, which we already have....

We need to start a new, fresh coaching staff and era.

You know what, I am starting to come around to that... Fisher was average in Tenn, but he was also hamstrung by a cheap owner... Like you said, he does have that fire... I might prefer him to Cowher and Gruden.

Mike Tomlin is proving in Pitt Just how valuable Labeau is and overrated cowher is. If you look at PFF, you'll see that Fisher's record is much better than Gruden, and comparable to Cowhers when you look at division championships and conference championships.

If we're going to "recycle" a coach I simply would like Fisher to have serious considerations. He's worthy of a look. Unlike Gruden and Cowher who are "sexy' choices because they are on the national media landscape, I believe Fisher laying low may actually be more attractive owners who can go about their business with less fanfare. Something I think Ross would welcome.

we need a GM that can evaluate talent

Over-rated. Year after year the talent evaluaters argue, "Why take this guy in the first when a similar talent will be there in the 2nd?" We need a guy that doesn't try to out-smart the draft and himself. We need someone who'll pick the generel consesus best talent that is availlable at your pick. Or someone who'll grow a sack and sell the farm to move up for the most important position in football- a quarterback. Not a guy who'll say "Why enter the Flacco sweepstakes when we can have a Henne much cheaper?" Or, "I won't need a quarterback when Ginn and the fam can score on every other return." Or wants to match his ego with an unknow Jason Allen to stick it to the gurus with an off-radar talent. Or wants to trade down for a Jamal Fletcher to stock-pile picks. Or wants to trade high picks for proven felons and unproven quarterbacks.

The "talent evaluaters", the "draft gurus", they nit-pick technique to have a purpose. Please... You can either play or you can't or you're just okay.

The year Clay Mathews came out, all I could read was a lack of techique this, and a lack of technique that. Mario Williams went from boom to bust to boom, butter, gold bullion. Aaron Rodgers- how many franchises can cry about that one? Us more so, as usual. We thought running back was a much more important position.

I am the only draft guru I have ever met and that is only because I stock a surplus of cold ones in the fridge. Pick the next best guy on the list. Go get the most important position on the field. Do not look to stock pile picks. 1 Great QB, DT, etc is better than 5 "starters".

We could have had Dez Bryant instead of Jared Odrick.

Dez and Brandon Marshall on each side of the field every Sunday.
