Jeff Ireland is calling varous media outlets today to share his viewpoint of what's going on with the Dolphins since the start of free agency and going forward.

About the idea that no one wants to come to play for the Dolphins -- a thread that has even hit national media following Miami's inability to land Jim Harbaugh, Jeff Fisher and Peyton Manning, among others:
"I absolutely think players and coaches want to be here," he said. "When we talk to people about the Dolphins, they still think highly of this franchise, its history, its direction. They have no problem coming here. And sometimes they don't. Sometimes they make other decisions. But it's a two-way street. We make our decisions also."

Ireland declined to be specific regarding the reasons Matt Flyn, Alex Smith and Peyton Manning did not come to the organization. Regarding everyone except Manning, he said, "Most of the time these decisions are about money."
As I have written previously, the Dolphins pursuit of Flynn came with a caveat: They wanted him at their price. The contract Miami offered Flynn was not as lucrative as the one offered by Seattle.

Ireland declined to give details of that negotiation except to say he would "not be reckless" in making a move that could potentially affect the club's future. Ireland called the Dolphins a "storied franchise," and pointed to the club's commitment to return to that better past. He said owner Stephen Ross is spending over $1 million in updating the club's Davie, Florida training facility to make it more comfortable and football friendly for players.

The club is redoing the locker room among other places.....

Other Ireland tidbits:

Armando Salguero ‏ @ArmandoSalgueroIreland called me and other media. Among the things he said was that Miami is done hunting for veteran QB options.

Ben Volin ‏ @BenVolinPBP Ireland also said he sees QB as a competition between Moore and Garrard http://bit.ly/GBbONe

Armando Salguero ‏ @ArmandoSalguero Jeff Ireland left open the door that the Dolphins would draft a QB.

Armando Salguero ‏ @ArmandoSalguero Jeff Ireland wouldn't discuss Tim Tebow but multiple team sources have told me today that is NOT an option for Miami.

Armando Salguero ‏ @ArmandoSalguero Ireland confirmed that Yeremiah Bell was not offered a pay cut. Did tell Bell he might be re-signed in the future.

Good move! Glad to see they give a **** what we think as fans!

There's nothing reckless about the contract Flynn signed. It's very mindful of leaving Sea flexibility in the future. So what the **** is he talking about?

Translation: Philbin doesn't think he's very good.

or

Jeff Ireland is a ****ing idiot.

Maybe a little bit of A and a little bit of B.

Glad he spoke up. I feel so much more at ease now. :rolleyes2:

All I got from this story is Ireland is dead set on its his way or the hiway...

"I've been chasing this guy since last year," Ireland said. "He's athletic, he has arm talent, he's got veteran experience, he brings great leadership. We went with a veteran at the position and we talked to Matt and he understands we need to play better at quarterback to get over the hump. So they'll compete and we'll see what happens."

Ireland sounds more of an idiot with this statement.

The first one.
Irelands job is to get Philbin players.
If Philbin would have stuck his neck out on Flynn then Ireland would have gotten him, but Philbin didn't... that is all we need to know.

It is never all one thing or another.
Miami probably low-balled him, Flynn may have gotten a better vibe from the Rah Rah world of Carroll.
Say what you will but the tandem of Philbin/Ireland are far from Rah Rah.

It is if they didn't think he was much better than Moore. If Philbin thought Flynn was the next coming of Aaron Rodgers, I think they would have shelled out the money for him. He obviously didn't.
