Jeff Ireland speaks to the media

bingo...if nothing else today this little protest made ireland feel the need to give us some reasoning for his decisions...but don't try and tell me $10 mil guaranteed for flynn would cripple this franchise...don't even go there
He's most definitely starting to feel the heat...there may not have been a lot of people out there but the coverage, media bombardment and players lashing out at Ireland is having an effect.

He's going to have to nail this draft just to quell the anger for a couple of months. If the team doesn't perform well it's going to fall on him. This isn't a good atmosphere for winning football right now...perception is reality.

It is if they didn't think he was much better than Moore. If Philbin thought Flynn was the next coming of Aaron Rodgers, I think they would have shelled out the money for him. He obviously didn't.

You have a point here, but Mike Florio also made a great point this AM on the radio. He said that the dolphins need to do a better job at Public Relations. They should have found out exactly what Flynn was asking for contractually BEFORE EVEN BRINGING HIM IN! Knowing that if they bring him In, and didn't sign him, it would look bad in the eyes of the fan. Of if they didn't think he was a franchise QB they could leak to the press that thats how they felt. So at least the fans have an Idea of whats going on.

I don't care too much for Florio but those are some excellent points. It's one thing to make questionable decision, but things would go a lot smoother if they even tried to fill us in on what the thinking behind the decisions are. That way at least we don't feel like they're clueless.

I will give Ireland credit for coming out and saying something.

For those saying Ireland had too big of an ego, he may have a big one, but it REALLY stretching it to believe he would refuse to give Philbin a guy he really wanted. And as I stated in the draft forum, Michael Lombardi (who has been more accurate than not) stated that people around the league felt Miami was more interested in Ryan Tannehill than Flynn. While Philbin was with Flynn for the last 4 years, his offensive staff as 3 coaches who have been around Tannehill for the same amount of time (okay 2, but 3 that were with him last year), one of whom being Mike Sherman; a guy who Philbin has been very close to for a long time.

Again, you can criticize Ireland for how he handled a few other situations, but Flynn really isn't one of them.

Or his boss told him to! Ireland sucks, but after shooting his mouth of about a QB away from a Superbowl Ross looks like a full blown idiot! People like Ross don't admit they are wrong they start tossing employees under the bus

In the 4 years Ireland has been here he has proven he's not a risk taker...that's good and bad. He has never spent money on a QB. In 2008 we got Pennington cheap, Henne was a 2nd round pick (also relatively cheap) and Josh McCown (cheap), 2009 it was Pennington, Henne and 2nd round pick Pat White (cheap), 2010 it was Pennington, Henne and Thigpen (cheap) and last year we had Henne and Moore (really cheap) with Devlin on the practice squad as an undrafted rookie (super duper cheap).

So either Ireland is scared of making a mistake and overpaying for a QB or drafting one in the first round...or he doesn't put any value in the position. Both are bad.

while I do agree with the point you are trying to make, I think in 08/09/10 it's a bit different.

Remember, everybody loved us signing Josh McCown to hold the seat for Chad Henne (who at the draft a lot of people thought could be a franchise QB). We only went after Pennington when McCown was awful in preseason and we didn't want to start Henne. In 09, we still had reason to believe Henne could be our QB of the future and we traded for Thigpen to have a backup. Most people expected Henne to continue to develop in 2010 (and he did show potential in 2009) but that didn't happen. If rumors are to be believed during the 2011 draft we really liked Locker and Ponder but they were gone. Who knows for sure.

true but who knows what happened. It was obvious Flynn's market was just us and Seattle. Maybe when Flynn's agent said we lowballed him we withdrew the offer, maybe he wanted more and we said thanks but no thanks, maybe we said he''d have to compete with Moore, maybe we told him we were looking in another direction and he had to take that deal from Seattle, or maybe Ireland is really is an ass. I don't know. Based on the deal he signed with Seattle, I'm confident enough to say that Flynn didn't have the market he expected to have.

So if we pass on Tannehill will you then say the same that has been said about Flynn? No one knew Tannehill better than the Dolphins because of Sherman and we passed on him cause he was a reach...not worth the investment.

Oh I can see it now.

the next one of you guys that brings up garrard and pro bowl should be banned...andy dalton was a pro bowler in 2011 and he's average at best...

But the Jake Long making the Popularity Bowl is how we judge our success!

Things look bad, we are missing out on free agents and the draft will not solve all the holes. Ireland is not going to be fired before the start of the season, not happening plain and simple.

What happens though if the team he puts together rips of 10+ wins and makes the players and perhaps even wins a playoff game? How do the fans react? Would you still kick him out the door at the end of the 2012 season?

yeah the moneys an issue that could cripple the cap but i'm willing to hand peyton manning 96 mil over 5 years if he'll come here...we probably would have low balled peyton also had he decided he wanted to play for us

its a dangerous game to put all your eggs in the tannehill draft basket anyways...you stay put no guarantee he gets to you...ireland must have a longer leash than i think he does if he can sit on a rookie qb for a year or so before he gets any results...

aren't you one of the ones who continuously are saying we need to draft a QB? I'm just not attacking just curious. What if our coaching staff including Philbin said they would rather take their chance on a rookie than a guy with 2 career starts? Technically we can STILL get a QB

if it happens then I was wrong. Simple as that.

They will be happy of course, although this schedule coming up isn't that hard. In order to fix this mess, we need to consistently win. I love and agree with rebuilding through the draft, but this team is struggling to tickets and we needed at least one move to energize the fan base. Maybe finally drafting a QB in the first round will get some people excited.

there's no way i believe that ireland didn't know flynns price when he brought him in...none...like the agent is gonna send his guy to visit us if we're not supposedly in the same ballpark money wise...ireland tried to low ball the kid relying on philbins relationship with flynn to seal the money difference deal...

any gm who brings a guy in for a visit and has no clue what the going rate is is worthless for a coveted free agent target...thats just garbage
