As I've said before, the QB could be the least blameworthy player on the team (theoretically), and if he isn't playing adequately individually, it hardly matters. His individual play still needs to improve to an adequate level for the team to have a high likelihood of being competitive in the league.

It makes little sense to focus on other areas of the team when the cornerstone of NFL competitiveness still isn't place. Why put the cart before the horse.

Adequate...meaning "average"??? Have you not spent numerous threads pointing out that his play is exactly this? So now what?

anyway, wonderful thread, so much fail from Shou and WV that is clearly done on purpose, no way some sober person could think that RT/Wison is, alone , a 3-4 game differential.... (imagine if we had A-rodgers, then...we will have the perfetc season II, LOL)

anyway, Wilson was passed on 2 time from all the League, not really the biggest fault in our super mega former GM (you know, the Boss.... )... the one that WV said was ultra bad (Parcellian, he drafted cornfed!), then very good (no Parcells, filnally drafted a QB), then again bad (I mean, he drafted RT, come on, how could you Mr Ireland?!)

Average QB play is adequate for high-level competitiveness only when multiple parts of the rest of a team are exceptional, and it's more difficult in the salary cap era to assemble such a team. It's far easier to be highly competitive when you have a stud at QB, which allows for less than exceptional play elsewhere.

Moreover, I'm being somewhat kind in calling Tannehill "average" overall, given that he played in a way slightly below average with regard to some of the most important dimensions.

I wouldn't say any parts of the team are exceptional (i.e., 95th percentile or better in the league). The pass defense, however, was playoff caliber, and the overall team discipline (i.e., penalties) was, as well. Other than that we're hurting.

I'm honestly not sure if i believe that any unit on this team was playoff caliber, team discipline was impressive but I worry that it's being overemphasized to the point that it's the reason the players are playing so stiff, they're afraid to make mistakes and afraid to draw penalties. And yes, we definitely need an infusion of talent, if we don't make the playoffs this year i'm in favor of just blowing the whole thing up and starting over from top to bottom.

Maybe Wilson is already on equal footing with Rodgers so the 3-4 game adjustment would apply to both of them equally. In my personal opinion Wilson is already a top 5 QB in the league, and no, that doesn't mean I think Tannehill is a bust, it just means I think Wilson is extraordinary.

Wilson played very well in the Super Bowl but it is worth noting that his touchdowns came after the 3rd quarter coup de grace by Percy Harvin. Wilson failed to get six twice and instead settled for field goals in the first quarter back when Denver was still within one score of tying the game. No quarterback who plays "absolutely perfect" in the Super Bowl as his team blows out the opponent fails to get the MVP. Don't get me wrong; he's more than just a game manager. He is light years ahead of Trent Dilfer and other bum quarterbacks who have Super Bowl rings but he is nowhere near Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Manning, Brady, etc. At least, not yet.

One of the times he "failed" he actually got the first down, it was a terrible spot and replay botched it as well. It was a great individual effort by Wilson to get it too.
