Jimmy Wilson was moved to safety

This also means there may be more of a priority to draft a corner or two. The Johnson kid from Montana comes to mind.

Trumaine is a stud, he'd probably beat out Sean Smith (not to be a homer of course)

Not surprising. It was either safety or off the roster. Wilson can't cover at cornerback, not to Philbin's standards as a coach with recent experience at what it takes to pass and defend the pass at deep playoff level. When he said he'd evaluate the roster off last year's film I knew it wouldn't bode well for little Jimmy Wilson, who was overhyped. Nice aggressiveness on the pass rush and special teams but he was turned all over the place last year and was very fortunate it didn't equate to several high profile surrendered touchdowns.

Jimmy Wilson is a star if the fourth exhibition game is your spotlight.

I don't think he'll be on the team within a year. It reminds me a bit of A.J. Edds and the false hopes attached to him. I wasn't posting here last August but during the exhibition season it was glaring that Edds' one supposed strength -- cover skills -- didn't translate to the new NFL. He got away with superior anticipation in college but appeared 10-20% lacking once he moved up in class. Off those preseason games, I thought he would be cut. Likewise, Wilson's hustle and hitting ability will only take him so far once Philbin gets the roster where it needs to be.

Granted, I'm not a Jimmy Wilson fan, after following that Montana case from the outset. Wilson is such a sympathetic figure he fled the scene and the state immediately, along with a felonious buddy who witnessed the shooting but refused to cooperate with authorities. For all the knocks on Jeff Ireland, drafting a guy like Wilson somehow escaped scrutiny in the Miami media. He blew a hole in somebody's chest and got away with it primarily because the other guy was more of a lowlife than himself, and conveniently unavailable to provide his version of events.

thank you for blessing us with your expert analysis. Wilson also faired better than Edds who really never saw much action at all.

Wilson as a rookie played well enough. Give the guy a break as he never had a camp to learn anything. I think he played S in college his last year. He can cover and hits hard and makes plays. He may be more suited for S as he will have more space and need to cover TEs and deep ball which is seems to do well. After a full camp I think he will also be improved player. This guy was a second or third round pick like Trumaine before the incident. By the way the guy he killed was beating up a woman relative of Wilsons and he was there to break it up and ended up fighting with the attacker. In this case GM actually picked someone with good character.

What exactly did Wilson do last year that people think he is any good? The plays that he made were almost all on blitzes.... yeah, ok, so the they let him have a few blitzes and make an impact. But I saw very little as far as cover skills. This is probably the reason that he is moving to safety...that and the fact that Clemons sucks and since we lost Bell, they had to move Jones.

It doesn'r really matter what you label him: FS or SS, because in Coyle's system, as previously mentioned in this post, and countless other threads, the safety's for the dolphins are now interchangeable. Both need to cover, both need to hit and stick the run.

The old SS for the fins was that extra linebacker who attempted to roam until he roamed into a play, now that SS and FS is labeled just S because both back end defender can actually cover, and be that last line of defense. We have been getting killed by TE's and explosive WR's because of our tackling safety that wont happen quite as often, now.
Does this mean that both our safeties need to be thinner and more speedy and so be less strong in run support but more effective in coverage?

IMO Wilson play the ball well in the air and attack the WR ,unlike Nolan Carrol
It's a good move
