JLC:Farmer Expected to be Offered Job Other Notes

Sorry if I missed it, but has Gamble accepted an interview? I also thought Ross made it clear that both Philbin and the new GM will report directly to him, so I am assuming that the new GM will not have unilateral authority to fire Philbin after 2014.

Not yet but is still expected to interview and should be the leading candidate IMHO.

Here are some thoughts from this article…

* The candidates that do not get the job, their agents will let it be known that they did not "want" the job because of the messy FO structure. In other words, they did not really want it and not they were simply passed over. So these stories will still stream out…however...
* I will still say it is true...and I will continue to say it…that the Aponte and Philbin axis dangerous for this franchise. They can triangulate anyone in the organization. Again, it screams the best thing Ross should have done was clean house.
* I like Farmer, but with the Aponte and Philbin duo, I still wonder if Brian Gaine is the best fit. Omar Khan does nothing for me. He is Dawn Aponte. Marc Ross is going to be a star, but I do not think he will get the gig.

I don't want Marc Ross to get the gig based on the fact that his job for the last 5 years has been running the Giants' drafts, and the Giants drafts have been absolutely terrible.

I do not think he will get it. Ray Farmer is seems like he deserves a shot. Tom Gamble would be outstanding.

See, Gamble is the test case for me. If he is interviewed and is offered the job…or even he is simply interviewed and does not get it…I would blame the FO structure and the inheriting a HC as why a top personnel guy did not want the job. IF that happens that is on Steve Ross.

I see Ross and the continuity, I see Khan and the continuity. What is it about Farmer that make people crazy for him? What is his body of work?

Whoever gets it if they are not your guy you will use this as your reason.

Gamble I don't think is a fair case as by all accounts he probably doesn't want to leave Philly and we don't even know for sure whether or not he'll interview.

But as I said earlier, JLC is not the most reliable source of information when it comes to stuff involving the NFL. I think there are some interesting talking points thought

I disagree though on a few things…

* If Peterson is that much of an advocate for say…Ray Farmer, but he goes back to doing what he did before, who is Farmer's advocate with in the FO?

* How is the new GM supposed to combat an obvious allegiance between Philbin and Aponte?

* Finally, we are all assuming that if Philbin fails next year he is fired and the new GM can pick his coach? How do we know this is the case? Ross loves Philbin and it is obvious Aponte is linked to Philbin…perhaps Philbin stays longer.

With all of these things up in the air, I am not sure once again that the GM job is a plum gig.

Ross should have cleaned house.

No. However, there will be stories that so and so did not want the job or withdrew his name because of the FO situation. My point is we have to sift through if that is really the case with the particular candidate.

You're going to rip the team and FO unless Gamble is the pick. And really, that might even be fair. Gamble is the only one who appears to be a slam dunk candidate.

To be honest, the guys I'm REALLY interested in are Licht, Gamble, and Highsmith. I hope it's one of those three. Highsmith has the least impressive front office resume, but he has a very strong college scouting background, he understands South Florida football, and he knows what good leadership brings to a football team. I think he'd also bring a good relationship with Joe Philbin in with him, and I think that's huge.

There is a correlation between reports made in the news and people suddenly loving a guy at Finheaven. That's one reason.

I leaning toward having a guy that fits as much as his ability to unearth players. Brian Gaine could be that guy.

La Confora should just pursue a new career as Drew Carey's doppleganger. He's right about football about as often as my wife is.

Licht is very intriguing. Arizona has found a ton of defensive playmakers who actually have excellent ball skills, not to mention their return game ability on special teams. To win in Seattle, destroy the Colts and go 10-6 with a piece of garbage like Carson Palmer at QB is damn impressive.
