JLC:Farmer Expected to be Offered Job Other Notes

On the other side, I wonder how long Ireland will stay unemployed, lol.

I think that New England Patriots need Jeff Ireland to take them to the next level. Belichick and Ireland could be a great partnership. BB is one of the few who could manage him and JI is hungry for success and yearning for some recognition.

Based on what I've read about Farmer, I like that he's respected, but I don't know enough to have an opinion on the guy.

Not a fan of Farmer. He's a pro personnel guy not a college guy. Also, he strikes me as just another fake smart guy like Ireland, overthinking the draft for the sake of looking smart. In other words, I think Farmer is clueless.

He's a personnel guy and a hard worker, not an Ireland type at all, he's a former player. I like him. But like you said he's not a college guy. He's going to have a learning curve running our draft. That concerns me.

His dad is in hospice care. We kinda do know the situation. :(

I understand that and I do not feel comfortable talking about it, but if he father is in poor health and there is not much time, he might in fact take the job.

Anyways, I would not blame him either way. I am sure his father would want him to do whatever he wanted.

Farmer seems like an up-and-comer.. but with needing a complete overhaul of 4 OL positions (plus backups), we need a vet GM.. process is building toward Gamble's interview imo

A vet won't come here in the current structure IMO. We will find one of these candidates on our list looking for their first gig.

Our whole scouting team needs to be replaced

sometimes issue isn't scouting. sometimes the issue is not taking a risk early enough. One of Ireland's biggest faults was that he waited too long for players he liked. The other is the old Parcell idea that 2 solid players is better than one great player.

Sure. I could definitely see how someone who might not even want the job might be inclined to interview. 1. It gets your name out there, and 2. It gives you some experience interviewing for that kind of position.

Or they discover they don't want the job during the interview. That has happened to me before.

First, the Dolphins are just around the corner from being very good. A guy who wants to be GM would see the potential and go for it.
Second, which veteran GM do you consider a good candidate? Name one ex-GM you'd want.

If any of these guys are too stupid to realize what a great situation this is or if they're too weak to deal with Aponte then we really didn't want them as our GM anyway.

All of this speculation is meaningless. Nobody knows. Regardless who it is,I'm sure we'll be chastised/black flagged/and run into the ground AS ALWAYS!!! I'm at the very least,excited.....that we can move forward without the Parcells/Ireland stronghold. Sure it's been nightmarish, but "I BLEED AQUA/ORANGE",and support Ross/Philbin. I have to....I'M A 'FIN4LIFE!!!

....or maybe they are smart enough not to hitch their star to Joe's wagon?

I could buy that argument in 2011 when Ireland was the GM because a coach needs to win right away to get the players to buy in and gain momentum, even if the GM gets fired its probably already too late for the coach. In this situation even if Philbin gets fired after this season it'll have no effect on the GMs future.

I am not sure it is a guarantee that Joe is canned after this year. Between his power axis with Aponte and Ross' stubbornness of wanting his pick as coach to succeed, the GM might be saddled with Philbin into the future. If I am Farmer, I might try to get the hell out of Cleveland and the same with Dawson in Tennessee. However, Ross, Gamble and Licht…why move from your current situations if you are not sure of the power structure or who is calling the shots on Sunday?
