JLC:Farmer Expected to be Offered Job Other Notes

If I am Farmer, I might try to get the hell out of Cleveland and the same with Dawson in Tennessee. However, Ross, Gamble and Licht…why move from your current situations if you are not sure of the power structure or who is calling the shots on Sunday?

From everything I've read on Farmer, I like him, and like that he's a former player, but he's also described as one of the "get along" types, and someone who conforms to the system he's joining, so he's perfect for Aponte and Philbin. I certainly does seem like they're looking for the right fit, not necessarily looking for the most brilliant mind to fill the position. Taking Aponte along to the screenings, when everyone in the NFL knows that there was all that office politics with Aponte, Philbin and Ireland? How is that possibly a good idea?

Farmer would become the new favorite son. Joe would become the new blame game.

I am not sure it is a guarantee that Joe is canned after this year. Between his power axis with Aponte and Ross' stubbornness of wanting his pick as coach to succeed, the GM might be saddled with Philbin into the future. Good grief! You spend so much time in other peoples minds........you need to go outside and get some fresh air.

I see lots of good candidates interviewing for this job. I'm sure we all have candidates we like better than others, but they are lining up. It doesn't appear that having a HC in place is hurting our candidate pool.

We have a good amount of cap space in 2014.....I think that is due to Aponte and you might be surprised by this, but some might find her performance an asset instead of the liability you imply.

I also think that Philbin's performance in 2014 will not reflect on a new GM, so again, I don't see that as a big negative to the job.

We have a number of good choices available to us for GM, no need for all the doom and gloom.

Licht is very intriguing. Arizona has found a ton of defensive playmakers who actually have excellent ball skills, not to mention their return game ability on special teams. To win in Seattle, destroy the Colts and go 10-6 with a piece of garbage like Carson Palmer at QB is damn impressive.
Absolutely

Except any candidate knows that it's very unlikely that a GM gets fired after one season.

How about after two seasons if saddled with Joe for more than one year? Is it not possible that Ross gives Joe two years more...he fails and Ross FINALLY comes to his senses and cleans house....starts anew with a GM and HC joined with the same vision?

If he was ready to let him leave this season, I can't imagine he wouldn't be in hot water with another mediocre season.

Where do you get the impression he was ready to jettison him this year?

If everything JLC reported was true, there's be no need for a GM change because Jim Harbaugh would be here coaching Payton Manning...

Exactly. Even if the team goes 2-14 I doubt the GM feels much heat. I also think its pretty safe to say Ross does not have an itchy trigger finger and I'd take the over on the new GM getting 5 years regardless of what Philbin does.

Like I said if the new GM can't see this as a great opportunity then he's stupid, plain and simple, and I've had more than enough of stupid at GM.

Well I was kinda hoping we might get Wolf (not interviewed) or Gamble. There are a lot of interesting candidates there. I kinda liked the sound of the guy Wanny suggested who was such a good GM in the CFL, but to my knowledge there has been no interest in interviewing him. Farmer wasn't too high on my list actually, but we'll see how it goes.

The strong presence of Dolphins executive vice president Dawn Aponte in the process -- she is one of the more vocal members of the interviewing party, sources said, and clearly closely aligned with coach Joe Philbin and owner Stephen Ross -- has not gone unnoticed by candidates, league sources said, and questions remain about the direction of the franchise.

dawn aponte.

i am sick of seeing her show up in everything associated with all this.

i dont care anything about this jlc thing, many sources are saying this is NOT some autonomy thing as ross got up and said, it is a three headed monster headed up and enforced by dawn aponte.

note the part that "she is the most vocal member" in the interview process? so all that stuff we heard about her and joe not wanting to have a GM who has ANY power over them is true. and their getting their way!!

i just can not see any REAL gm worth a crap gettting caught up in this nonsense. there just seems to be NO END IN SIGHT with the curse on the dolphins.

this aponte chick must give some real good.............., advice. ;)

and as far as RAY FARMER goes................ what has been impressive about them in recent years?

that weeden kid sure was a dandy pic huh? there defense is ok, but, overall, there WORSE OFF than we are!!

so, why do we want him here?

there just looking for a token, someone to do the things aponte doesnt have time for.

we have JETS fans running the dolphins. just something not right about jet fans running our team.

i stiil think its BRIAN GAINE and has been all along.

Not a fan of Farmer. He's a pro personnel guy not a college guy. Also, he strikes me as just another fake smart guy like Ireland, overthinking the draft for the sake of looking smart. In other words, I think Farmer is clueless.

Well if anyone knows clueless....

Weeden was not picked by Farmer. Let’s at least be fair about his record if you want to criticism him.
