John Clayton on the fins

Ricky is the back up to Lamar Gordan at this point as Lamar actually knows a little about the offense and practiced with the team

I wouldn't say "backup" so much as "change of pace."

Exactly right Astro.

Also, let's not forget that Brown is a rookie and is not used to the pounding of a sixteen game season. Ricky's true value will come in December on the road when we need a tough running game to pull us through the New England night (Don't we play New England up there in December). The playoffs will demand a two headed monster at the RB spot and Brown and Williams will be a nice 1-2 punch to turn to.

As for the QB play comment, Clayton didn't watch the games. If he had, he would have seen the true cause of our offensive demise: the young offensive line. AJ persevered through some pretty attrocious blocking and still managed to put points on the board. With Houck in place teaching the youngins' and McDougle added to the right side for stability we have a shot to be a decent if not good Offensive line. Give AJ enough time and maybe he blossoms. He certainly has the arm and release for it. Maybe with a little confidence (from knowing your blindside isn't exposed), he can overcome the "force" turnovers that plagued him last year. Look at the first one and a half quarters of the Buffalo game last year (in November). That's what AJ is capable of.

We'll see.

Coaches had more to worry about from Feeley than they did from Morris. Feeley at least as the ability for a good play or two. Morris had the ability for a 10 yard run.
that's a first down.

Db's were excited about Feeley not scared.

that's a rare occurance and not a 30 yard touchdown.
my point is, both your running and passing game sucked. Clayton was partly right. ;)

linebackers were excited about Feeley as they knew they could get a free shot in and have zero worries about the runningback. They knew that they could go after Feeley and if it was a run they had enough time to stop, change directions, have a spot of tea, talk about politics of the day, finish their taxes, have sex with their mistresses, do a crossword puzzle, write a movie script starring them and Carmen Electra, convice Carmen she needs to have sex with them for the part, go through the sexual harrasement lawsuit, buy a ring to apologize to their wives and STILL be able to tackle Morris in the backfield.

Actually DE's were excited about Feeley because they knew they'd have a chance to crush his blindside and destroy his confidence. You put a plug on the left side hit that Feeley was expecting on every down and our QB can get the ball to the receiver.

True, true... but I've got a whole hell of a lot more confidence in putting AJ in there with the current crew to get the job done than I do putting Sammy Morris in.

I still think most of the fault for both though falls on the OL and the OC.

they scored more for your team while AJ scored more for the other. :D

It's all interconnected. With a fresh start and better personell on both the Oline and in the running game we should see marked improvement.

Should being the operative word.

Right now, the part of our team I'm most worried about is the secondary. We're going to have brand new starters at three of the four spots and our nickel could be different as well.

I'm praying that Madison, Bell, Jones and Daniels can pull their weight as a group. I trust Saban knows what he's doing in this regard though.

you cannot blame the OL for your passing game without blaming them for your running game.

I believe Clayton on personnel matters(trades, etc) never on X's and O's.

the OL was a part of the problem. Just not as big as Sammy Morris.

Having a good runningback can make up for a poor offensive line and a crappy quarterback. As seen by the Miami Dolphins of 2003.

I'd say whoever gets the title of starter will be honorary only. I'd expect the split to be pretty damn close to 50/50, and as mentioned if a back gets hot... they'll likely get the most carries that game.

It's a terrable situation for our team to be in. All of RBs potential should pay divdends for us. Ricky had a brain fart, he wasn't injured, so there is nothing to prevent him from coming back and being extremely productive and I expect that to happen. It's terrable...for the opposition! If this works out, (the OL will determine that), I look forward to seeing them both in the backfield at the same time, three or four times a game.
