Jonathan Martin - Decent Cornfed

You could do a lot worse than Jake Long. So, so much worse. But that's not even the point. Giving him a stupid, unoriginal nickname, then continuing to refer to him by the same dumb nickname five more times in the same post is beyond childish and destroys the legitimacy he might have otherwise had with his point.

Jake WRONG is a Ram we could have done a lot better then him! Man crushes cause posters to lose credibility.

They had some tough times with Duane brown in Houston. Now he is regarded as the best in the game. We can hope!

Tannehill has pretty good awareness and escapability. If Martin plays less than average RT can still give himself a chance on a good portion of those plays.

Once again spot on. There's a certain trust in these coaches that they'll do the right thing. I had that with the previous regime as well but you never had with Sparano and company, WVDolphan. There was a time you used to b**** around on these boards, throwing our whole coaching staff, our QB and seemingly everyone involved with the Fins under the bus. That was during the Sparano years. You never had something good to say about Sparano, Chad Henne and Jake Long among others. Back then, I hated every single post of yours because I wanted to believe that they were doing the right things. Might be about 3 years ago.

3 losing seasons later, I have to admit you were so right. It's night and day. I have rarely seen a Dolphins team being as prepared for Sunday's opponent as the 2012 squad. And I have great hopes that this will continue in 2013. I cannot eat enough crow for bashing you and your thoughts back in the Sparano days but as it turns out you were b****ing around with a reason and that's why I hope you have the right gut feeling again and we'll soon be playing for more than just for bragging rights.

Agree we just need Martin to be average, and then we will be happy. I'm really interested in how all our 2nd year guys fair, because this I'm taking is guys that Ireland with the help of Philbin hired to achieve Philbin's vision, both on O and D. Tannehill, Martin, Vernon, Shelby, Samuda, Egnew, Matthews, Randall, there does seem to be good talent coming through which will save us on the salary cap long term.

Philbin is an Oline guy. You just have to look at GBs track record of drafting linemen during the Philbin years- and the success of his olines, to know he's got this. Maybe not overnight, but as a process, we'll be fine.

I agree with you the Matt Ryan crush on this board is ridiculous, a year earlier Rodgers was an outstanding choice with the second pick oa!! :chuckle:

I'd tend to agree with you, however I don't see you jumping in and admonishing the "fireland" crowd.

So here we are arguing if Martin sucks, or if he's just "below average", or even "decent". I havent seen anyone says he's played well. No matter which side of the fence you sit on, the LT is clearly a position that needs to be upgraded on the offense. If I had to target a few positions on this team as weak links, LT is one of them. In 2014 draft of free agency, I would bet money we address this position.

i think martin can be a decent lt but we havent seen enough to know. nothing wrong with going after top tier line talent but if u have nothing else its pretty dumb. so let me see u have no qb or wr and lt is our number one priority thats a recipe for losing. this is why drafting a guy like long can be quite flawed same thing with even joe thomas. you should upgrade every position u can. uf martin is garbage at lt it will definately matter

If that's a nickname that's widespread, then sure, I'll admonish them too.

Yet no one seems to understand how ridiculous this is. Nice job Zounds.

Great write-up WV, spot on. It's way too early to close the book on Martin. He was a rookie last year, thrown into the fire with a very limited off-season, forced to learn a new position and then switched back to another position on 3/4 of the way. How about we give the guy a few regular season games before making any judgement on his abilities for this year. He doesn't have to be all-world for Miami to be successful, he just has to hold his own.

The success of an NFL football team almost always comes down to the play of the Quarterback. Does Tannehill step up to the next level or does he regress. That will determine whether we make the playoffs or we are drafting in the top 10 again next year. I don't hear anyone in Green Bay writing off this year because they lost Bulaga.

I also got a good chuckle out of LC (left cornfed), RC (right cornfed), CC(center cornfed). :chuckle:

Jake Wrong is about him being the selection over Matt Ryan not his ability. Anyone that's been here long enough knows that WV was adamant about us taking Ryan with that pick and was less than pleased when we didn't. And it has been proven that Ryan should have been the pick.

Wanted to reply before I read any further in this thread. WVDolphan, you have perfectly captured and expressed my feelings towards this non-issue. Thanks to you, I can go on lurking and grinning. :brewskis:
