Junior Seau passes away..RIP

Ultimately, it is all about the money, but regardless, he recognizes that if the NFL doesn't become a safer league, the league will lose money due to lawsuits. Its not about 18 games. Regardless of motivations, he is trying to make the leave safer, thus why the emphasis on punishments for safety related issues.

If lawsuits were the overriding issue, why would he still be pushing for 18 games?

The owners recognize they need the players to sign off on 18 games in order to do it. But the players are hesitant because of injury concerns. So then, the equation becomes simple. If the game is too violent for an 18 game schedule, you make the game less violent. You come down hard on stuff like Bounty Gate. You fine players out the wazoo if they hit anybody on the head. You basically eliminate the kickoff return from the game.

Then, when it's time to negotiate again, you can say, "look, haven't we addressed these concerns? Haven't we been vigilant on the safety issues?" Blah blah blah. Anything to get two extra games the fans have been clear in poll after poll that they don't want but the owners view as a huge pile of basically free money.

But it's not about player safety. At the end of the day they might reduce the chances per snap a player might get injured (in some ways, but not in others). But the two extra games will just increase the total number of snaps to compensate.

Like you said, it's all about money. I just hate that Goodell is called the Commissioner when he only represents the owners in these matters.

Just seen JR on a cooking channel show, about some bar he owned.

As for JR, sorry to see things got so bad you possibly might have taken his own life. May your almighty watch over the loved one's left behind and your soul.

Seau's the Restaurant here in San Diego? Been there a couple times, great place. Seau was huge in San Diego.

But the players are the ones who are always speaking out against new safety rules. How could they go to the negotiating table and bring up new safety rules in order to get 18 games, if the players are the ones who don't even want the new rules. That doesn't make sense.

It was a show about 'Hot' food. And JR was there showing the guests/commentators the best of the menu.

I remember seeing Junior on some TV show a few times about the day in the life of odd ball jobs. (Rodeo Clown / Towel Boys at stadiums etc...)

Always seemed full of joy.

Very Sad.

There are a lot of people commenting about the situation like they knew what was going on in the man's head or something. We do not have a lot of details right now, and we may never really know what happened, how he was feeling, or what caused these demons to arise. I think someone with high character like him should be remembered for not only the great player he was, but the great person.

I think you mostly see defensive players speak out against the rules because they're the ones who have to comply with them (or get fined) and the rules are written sort of sloppily and not enforced consistently.

If they started calling penalties and/or fining offensive players for diving at people's knees (which I suspect is coming) the players who do most of the complaining now would be singing a different tune.

that is number 8 from the 1994 charges super bowl team.

Dang was having a great day until hearing this news. Sad stuff

Got to love someone who hi jacks a thread to go on a Commish rant. :vaark:

And since he has me on ignore. He rails against the commish, but leaves the fact out...that the players have representation in these matter...NFLPA.
