Here is some thoughts on the Jets by one of their fans.

Reasons for serious concern:

1.) Curtis Martin sure looked every bit his age today. If you think this team can be a legitimate contender with an Eddie George that can't break tackles at running back, then you are delusional.

2.) We have a huge, unfilled hole at defensive tackle. Signing Lance Legree, drafting Sione Bust, and re-upping Tank Reed is not the answer. Our run defense really missed Jason Ferguson out there today. We downplayed his loss, but the bottom line is that he made run defense immensely better.

3.) For a rookie kicker that has huge expectations, the first kick of his career being blocked certainly cannot help his psyche. Nugent has the leg, but so much in regards to kicking is mental. Doug Brien didn't have it mentally. Let's hope Nuge doesn't get Kaeding'd.

4.) Chad is an enigma. When he's blitzed, his IQ drops by 50 points. When he has TOO much time, especially on third down, he tends to panic and force passes into traffic, such as the pass he completed to Surtain today. Also, we can only hope that the fumbles were a freak occurance, and our $64 million dollar question mark hasn't morphed into Dave Kreig in the past seven months.

What do you see as the Key Player Matchups this week?

I wouldn't read to much into the Cheif game. The Jets are not that bad, it just kind of snowballed on them. Yes they should be worried, but we really can't think they are that bad. Ferguson was a huge loss for them!

And you know it really does not matter what record the Fins or Jets have, anything can and usually does happen when these two teams play!

Just like fans overreact after L's on this board they do it on Jet boards. he does not speak for all Jet fans. You'll see a different Jet team Sunday.

Relax NY we all (the sane among us) realize this is not going to be how the Jets are going to play all year...but if I was a Jet fan Id be a little more worried about this game than I was before this last week.

Yeah there's always next Sunday. As a Dolphins fan, I know exactly what it's like thinking there's always next Sunday.

I dont think there is really a whole hell of alot of overreacting you can do after a performance like the Jets put out last week.

If the Jets simply had a bad game and lost, it'd be one thing. But the Jets looked completely unprepared and lost out there. Correct me if I'm wrong, but besides last season when a specific emphasis was put on it, the Jets under Herm Edwards have traditionally struggled early in the season, no?

How do you explain 6 fumbles and 1 interceptions? 6 fumbles ties LAST SEASONS league lead. Something has to be seriously physically or mentally wrong with Pennington, someone whose strength is game management. You do realize that he had more turnovers then Ray Lucas had in that fateful first game vs. Buffalo, right?

What aspect of the game did you guys not suck at last week? Curtis Martin looked like he was 10 years older then he actually is, and your O-line looked completely inept at blitz pickup, a point which probabaly wont be overlooked by Saban, or any future opponents. Your run defense? Pass defense?

All is not lost, but you and others like you on Ganggreen and Jets Insider should be a hell of alot more worried then you are.

i can agree w/ that, i thought we'd lose at KC but I did not expect a thrashing so obviously it's alarming but I'm not going to lose all hope after just 1 game. Many times teams have layed eggs in Week 1 and come back to be very good teams, if we play the same way next week then I'll begin to get worried but as of now it's just 1 game albeit an atrocious 1 game.

Im expecting a typical NY/Miami bloodbath probably bloodier than normal it should be the hardest hitting most physical of the week jmo.

Yep. Started 3-3 in '01, 1-4,2-5 in '02, 0-4 in '03. we used to start fast and finish poor but under herm we have started slow and finished strong. Let's hope we can avoid a bad start and get a W next week.

And some teams go 4-12 and get better the following year... So, your telling us to not get up and optimistic iabout our team is different then saying teams can lay an egg and get better? I'm confused...

And I think the Miami D is going to have a field day next week...

I didn't say don't get optimistic, you guys should be very happy w/ the start after what happened last year but Week 1 does not tell the story of a season. It could be a predictr but in alot of cases it s not.

Here's the key matchups for Dolphin for this Sunday's game and they are all on the line except one...

Kevin Carter vs. Adrian Jones
Jason Taylor vs. Jason Fabini
McKinney/Hadnot vs. Dewayne Robertson
McMicheal vs. Kerry Rhodes

Carter and Taylor must rattle Pennington. If we force the Jets to use double TEs all the time then we really limit their big play potential. On the other we need to hammer in the short, especially the flats. Play Crowder and Seau there to make the big hits. Challenge Chad to make the tough intermediate throws. Force Mawae out of his element by not allowing him to go after Zach.

Fabini against taylor is a very scary matchup for us.

I think it's compounded by the fact that he's not going to be nearly as easy to double team as he was in the past. Alot of the times he's going to be standing up and blitzing, and not just from the OLB/DE position, but from any linebacker position in both the 4-3 and 3-4. With the Jets blitz pickup, he's got the potential for a big game.
