Kiper on Phins Trading Up

I can't see Martin as a top 20 prospect in this draft. Just can't see it. His size is a question mark, his position fit is a question mark. You're looking at a guy to move to a low-value position like guard when he hasn't played that spot before before? Yeesh. So many better options in the top 25, imo.

From the little ive seen from Lewan, i dont like him. He's too big to get his hands on a player and not completely dominate them. He has huge arms and doesnt punch. He stands straight up and his feet don't keep up with his frame. Again, this is critique based on a ridiculously minimal amount of sample size.

What im noticing more and more often as the years pass is that size is trumping tape and even snaps. I really dont see why that is but im just a shmuck on a couch. Funny enough, that size thing is now reversed when it comes to the QB. Prototypical is giving way to playmaking. Its a new NFL.

I was listening to Gruden the other day, and liked a few comments. On Robinson, he said he is athletic, can get to the second level, and can dominate one on one but, his arms are all over the place and needs a lot of work on that for the NFL.

On Watkins, he said that he was great after the catch but, that he has never seen most of the routes he has run last year. lol

Point being that we see what players have done at the College level but, the NFL is a totally different ball game.

Just watch whatever there is on youtube. The guy is smart. He is going to be a very solid player.

Now, i dont care if you're picking 1 or 32, you're looking for nothing short of STAR in the 1st round, not just solid. But if we cant manage the trenches, average at the very least, we are going to need Tannehill to turn into Marino to get back to the tippy top of the mountain. And theres only one Marino.

If Martin is there at 19, you take him. You bank on solid and hope it translates to superstardom.

Listen, do you think- without a reasonable doubt- that we dont make the playoffs if Tanehill doesnt see the turf 58 times? The Buffalo games alone.

People dont give Tanne the respect he's due. What he was able to accomplish behind that line was nothing short of superstar status. Get the man a line especially if it falls to you.

I understand that versatility is supposed to be a good thing but, for me, I would rather have a player who is VG at one spot for a rookie, and not moved around. I look at players like Odrick, Dallas, and even Jerry being moved, and it takes too much time to work things out. By the time you find out where to play them, your rookie contract advantage is at least half over. JMO

You need a solid o line, not a great one. You don't get enough of a difference maker from those positions. Is Martin really that much of an upgrade over a Moses, CK, James etc, that he's worth losing a 2nd round pick over?
I don't believe so.

Jake Matthews would be the ideal tackle to move up for.

No tackle would be worth moving up for.

What would it take to move up and get Matthews at 8?

Wasn't it just recently that Mel had the phins taking Lee @ 19? Now this?

I'd like to see the phins draft Z Martin but at 19.

If no ZM at 19 then I'd like to see the phins do something really unpredictable just to royally pi$$ off Kiper, LaCanfora, Heath Evans, etc...

A 1 and a 2 brings us to the 9-11 range, with 8 being close. A 1 and a 3 brings us to the 13-15 range, based on the value chart. With this draft being so deep, I would have to think that 2nd and 3rd rounders will hold more value than the norm.

I'd like to see us get Ebron if we are going to move up, but only if we don't give too much. I would not want to give up our 2nd round pick. I think we can get a quality G or T there.
