Kiper on Phins Trading Up

What would it take to move up and get Matthews at 8?

More than I'd be willing to give up. Unless you have a team like the Raiders again so desperate where we can fleece them again (and whether or not Dion Jordan becomes a player, that was an epic fail on Reggie McKenzie's part) you aren't moving up 11 spots without giving up an arm and a leg. And if certain rumors are true (which is always up in the air) OL could be flying off the board rather quick.

Personally, I think more people should start doing research on Joe Bitonio.

I'm all for them moving up to get the right TE or WR. Otherwise no.

I would not want to trade up for a receiver in a deep draft of pass catchers. TE? Ebron is who you are talking about. I would not do that either.

Jake Matthews is the safest pick in the draft and a natural RT.

It will take a 2 and something else. I agree it is rich for my doing. Matthews is the only kid I would move for at 8 before Buffalo.

I like Bitonio, but I think he is an OG.

I agree with moving up.

Hickey screwed up in free agency. With all the cap space if they spent another 2 or 3 million they could have had another guard or tackle. Enter the draft needing 1 starter on the o-line...not 2. Now needing 2 Miami is in panic mode and SHOULD trade up

If I'm drafting the guy as a RT, I like Fleming much more than I do Martin - regardless of where you get him.

I read this wrong and initially thought you meant Fleming is a better overall player than Martin. Although I don't agree with the fact that Fleming> Martin at Right Tackle, I can see your side of the argument, with Fleming having more length than Martin. I still think Martin can play right tackle just fine, but he is definitely a better guard. Fleming, I think can be an average right tackle. #81 would be fair value for him, but definitely not worth top 50 consideration..

About the "projection" of Martin to guard.. He has plenty of experience pulling, and Troy Niklas (Notre Dame TE) has been used as a pass protector so you can see Martin with pass sets very similar to a guard as well.. It's a very easy transition from inside to outside.. Martin has 52 starts, most in Notre Dame history. To think he cannot make the transition is beyond ludicrous.

Martin is a better guard than Right Tackle, but can be a top 10 right tackle.. I wholeheartedly believe he is an all-pro guard for a decade.. again, have him rated as a top 10 player overall in the draft.. 52 starts most in Notre Dame history.. ZERO flaws in his game if you grade him as a guard.. Very consistent player, put on any 52 games he's started and you can count on 1 hand the amount of negative plays. I don't buy that "guards have no value" that's a bunch of crap. Get the best player. I have Zack Martin rated superior to recent 1st round guards like David DeCastro, Kevin Zeitler, Jonathan Cooper, and Chance Warmack.

I'm pretty damn sure Miami would be over drafting Joe bitonio if they turn in that card at 19...like really sure

XSF is a good value if you're looking for a guard at #19 and Martin is off the board.. Bitonio's value is in the 25-35 range

We're set at OG with Hickey's signing of Shelly to go with Dallas and Brenner. We're just looking for a potential upgrade on Fox at RT.

Shelley is an AVERAGE starter at best. Brenner isn't a lock to make the 53. And Dallas Thomas was one of Jeff Ireland's worst draft picks. So yeah they need a minimum of one starter at guard, as well as tackle. I feel better about Jason Fox starting than I do Brenner or Thomas

Only way the Dolphins move up is to get Clowney. Not a bad defensive front Wake, Jordan, Clowney, Starks, Mitchell, Odrick, Vernon; but, this time of the year it's all smoke and mirrors. No way..
