I'm not so excited about this personally. Don't get me wrong, the guy is a helluva player. The problem comes in that he is a Mike Alstott type. He is so-so as a blocker. His forte is running the ball. More importantly, the Navy option offense relied more on confusion than anything. They ran the exact same formation with the exact same motion a majority of the time. In plain words, the teams didn't know whether Eckel was getting it, the WR was getting it on a reverse, the QB was keeping it, or the HB was taking it on a run in the A-gap, B-gap, on a sweep, or a pull.
The problem is 2-fold. First, there is little place in the modern NFL for a Mike Alstott type back. A FB is primarily a lead blocker these days. Secondly, is Ecker really that good? Or was he benefitting from the confusion caused by multiple play-actions in a single play? I think he may not be as good as advertised, which is reinforced by the fact that he went undrafted. A solid pick up none-the-less. Definately a project though......
On a side note, the guy hits like a truck......
