La Canfora: Kahn and Vital will also intetview

Gamble also turned down or was discounted from the Jets GM position last year because keeping Rex on for at least a year was a condition of the job. I don't think he's leaving Philly.

Keeping Rex was not the reason he did not consider the Jets job.
As a matter of fact he was quoted that he liked Rex Ryan as a coach.

He was comfortable in Philadelphia.

Why do we always have to make crap up????

They did. It was rumored because he wanted to bring in his own head coach.

Rumors right? Yeah. Second post with an underhanded slap that we kept Philbin.

Gamble said:
Gamble interviewed for GM vacancies with the New York Jets and Jaguars this off-season, but did not get either job, he said, for reasons that were "some on my end and some on the other end." He did not say that becoming a GM was his ultimate goal, but it is obviously a step he wishes to someday take.

Where are all of the established GM's these are all rookies for this position!

Edited out typo "Coaches."

What established GMs? They have jobs. It is much harder to get an established under contract GM as you have to usually offer an upgraded position.
The only GMs available are the ones which are currently unemployed (see Ireland) because they didn't do their jobs or are retired and do some TV work (see Polian etc).

You really have no idea how this works right?

Whatever GM comes in has an out. If they fail the first year he can say "well, Joe wasn't my guy", and go hire who he wants. It's not a problem for a GM. People didn't get to be GM's by taking bad situations and doing nothing, they made lemonade.

Neither was Ryan Grigson. That guy is damn impressive! The drunken tweeter hit a home run bringing his talents to Indianapolis. We end up with even a poor man's version of him and we've hit the jackpot!

the guy who traded a 2nd round pick for vontae davis AND a 1st round pick for trent richardson? sorry i dont want a GM like that

Dolphins denied permission to interview Ryan Pace.

The Dolphins have been denied permission to interview Saints personnel director Ryan Pace for their GM opening

How can any team deny permission if the requesting team is offering a step up in position?

For employees in the final year of their contracts, permission can’t be denied — but under certain circumstances a departure can be delayed. For employees not in the final year of their contracts, the current team can block an interview for a position that doesn’t entail “(1) the authority over all personnel decisions related to the signing of free agents, the selection of players in the College Draft, trades, terminations, and related decisions, and (2) the responsibility for coordinating other football activities with the Head Coach.”

Or, as we learned today in connection with Kansas City’s denial of permission to the Buccaneers for permission to interview Chiefs director of pro personnel Chris Ballard, the explanation could be that the candidate didn’t want to leave

They have Marino on the advice commitee

advice commitee? hope it isnt financial or relationship.

that would be BAD!!!!

Yup. That hire would make no sense. Might be a minority interview appeasement?

Khan has been heavily involved with scouting for years even if it isn't in his job description. He was a scout in New Orleans and did a bunch of internships in college with them as a scout.

And pretty much every candidate we're interviewing outside of like 2 are minorities

Minority appeasement? We have Lake Dawson, Ray Farmer and Lionel Vital already confirmed to interview...they wouldn't need Kahn to appease the minority when you already have 3 minorities to interview. 4 of the 5 candidates are minorities.

Looking at the list and reading their profiles I would have to order them like this:

Ray Farmer
Lionel Vital
Jason Licht
Omar Khan
Lake Dawson

Good list if we can get interviews with all of them. I think the potential GM's non-powers over Philbin or the head coach is overblown. It's definitely a symbiotic relationship. Philbin will have to work with the GM that's picking his players so he ultimately gets the type of players he wants for the schemes his coaches are implementing. In turn, no GM wants to see the players he picks fail because the coaches don't know how to use him or he doesn't quite fit the scheme.

For example, Dion Jordan. Jordan is a fine prospect and physical specimen, but he was not ready to start at 4-3 DE last year. Even if he was fully healthy, there were doubts about his ability to set the edge in the run game. Dion Jordan is the perfect havoc wreaking 3-4 rush linebacker. Problem being that Ireland wet his pants looking at Jordan the specimen and didn't identify how he would fit.

I think all the guys mentioned are confirmed to interview. Not sure if there will be any others.
