La Canfora: Kahn and Vital will also intetview

Omar Kahn to interview today:

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 4m
As for GM searches, I hear #Steelers Director of Football Administration Omar Khan slated to be in Miami today for #Dolphins job interview

Omar Kahn to interview today:

There seem to be a lot of mixed signals about Kahn and his qualifications. I keep seeing people saying that he is just a cap guy and does pretty much the same job that Aponte does. Though I see other people raving about him and saying how great of a GM he would be. Ian Rapport and Jason La Canfora both seem to think he would be a great hire for the Dolphins.

Would be fun to also hire him so that when we say Omar or even Omar K., we are not talking about the moron at the Sun-Sentinel. ;)

Minority appeasement? We have Lake Dawson, Ray Farmer and Lionel Vital already confirmed to interview...they wouldn't need Kahn to appease the minority when you already have 3 minorities to interview. 4 of the 5 candidates are minorities.

Looking at the list and reading their profiles I would have to order them like this:

Ray Farmer
Lionel Vital
Jason Licht
Omar Khan
Lake Dawson

Some peole just post things without thinking sometimes. Forgive him.

but just to add to your list you left out A Highsmith.

My ranking is similar to yours except I have Highsmith FIRST

I jsut think he brings something to the table in terms of driver/ energy/determination (not to say that the others dont) on top of that he played at the U / he is a former player/ he tried his hand at another proffesion so he knows a kid that has determination and one that is willing to work as he can ID that from himself/ he would be coming back home / he worked with Philbin before in the past and the two will hit it off/ and above all he has been very sucessful in his rol as a scout in Green Bay. I dont think there will be any underminding going on.

IDK - I just like the hire if that was to happen.

If you have any trust in my judgement trust me when I say he'd be a slam dunk hire in terms of qualified candidates. Not promising success, but he's IMO the most qualified.

Can you expound on his personnel side as I have always read of him being a cap guy. Is there local info we are not hearing?

yes there is. He started out as a scout in New Orleans. Not only working as one from 97 to 2001, but he interned as a scout for 4 years while at Tulane there before 97. He joined Pittsburgh to be a cap guy, but he also works as a scout for them and always has. He is Kevin Colbert's right hand man during the draft process.

I guess if Joe doesn't win, the Dolphins would be first choice for Bill Cowher if he wanted to come back coaching. Although I don't know if that is good or bad. Come to think of it Cowher might go back to Pittsburgh, the way they have been playing lately.

You know, if nothing else having all these different candidates interview will give Ross and Co. a very solid idea about what other people think of this team and it's leadership. Every candidate is going to be asked about their plan for the team. After 8 interviews you'll see a pattern of what others think Miami needs.
