LaCanfora: Ross headed to London and then China

We just interviewed 7 candidates, and they probably each made claims or cited accomplishments that need to be validated. We need to check references, verify claims, dig up dirt, and hold each of these candidates up side by side and make a decision. That's something that will take more than a few days - probably a few weeks.

If any of these candidates are truly "confused" by the interview/hiring process as the article claims, then they probably also don't understand the diligence needed to be a GM. Scouting and drafting players or free agents takes a lot of time and research, and if a potential GM doesn't understand that process, then I'd gladly cross him off my list. Next....

I don't see what the rush is all about, there is only one other GM opening and its not as attractive

any chance there's a Chinese billionaire looking to buy an American football team?

I think we just had our first Asian player in the NFL (I think it was Buffalo?) so maybe wait a few year for Asian ownership

As someone who deals with the Chinese on a daily basis, trust me when I say you do not want them anywhere near your football team.

You think management is bad in the United States? Inept, nonsensical decisions? I have seen Chinese firms do things that would make even a 5th grader scratch his head and ask "Do these people just hate making money or something?" And yeah, that's a generalization, but I invite you to ask anyone else who has regular dealings in business over there. You can blame it on Mao's purge of the intellectual class or being late to the party, but you wouldn't even believe some of the stuff I've seen.

You don't like Ross? It could be much, much worse. Heck, you don't even need to look to the other side of the globe -- just look at Jeffrey Loria.

All of our candidates currently have a job that would have them scouting at the Senior Bowl this week. They aren't even around this week. I guess they could accept an offer over the phone, but they wouldn't be in the Dolphins facilities til next week. I don't see anything happening until next week, at the earliest.

You mean directly from Asia? Because there have been Asian-American players. Roman Gabriel was Filipino, Hines Ward Korean, Dat Nguyen S. Vietnam, Eugene Chung Korean, and others.

Sorry, I mean Chinese-American, not Asian. Ed Wang is his name. First Chinese player in the NFL.

Dolphins source tells me new GM interviews are coming and Stephen Ross is engaged.

So no GM hire this week likely but Dolphins aren't worried about it, per team source:

Probably not a coincidence that London and China are the two most recent sites of the Summer Olympics.

Our new general manager is Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps.

Phelps might come....especially since there is a petition going around FL with enough signatures to get marijuana legalization on the next FL ballot, and we all know that if your state legalizes weed, you go to the super bowl - see Washington and Colorado.
