Lamar Miller 2013 Highlights

I should've muted it. Now I have "Ready... go go" stuck in my head.

I didn't make the video, just found it on Armando's twitter feed... Worth a look, and maybe a discussion of people's expectations of Miller this year splitting with Moreno in Lazor's new offense.

For me, it's hard with Miller.. He shows a lot of promise as a change of pace back. Obviously he'll never be the bellcow sort of RB, but I think he can be an extremely valuable asset to the team. Give him a hole and he can rip a big run like few others in the league, his acceleration is top notch that way..

But he has a lot of brainfarts.. Like what happened at Tampa - turned a sure open-field TD into a lost fumble. And his physicality will always be lacking, that's just not his game.. Like I said, it's hard to know what his future will be.

I guess I'll say that I still believe in Lamar Miller, and Lazor's offense will be good for him. Him + mobile OL = potent screen game that should gash for yards. Moreno will cut into his carries, but he'll get enough to be effective and show us once & for all if he's to remain a Dolphin.

Your thoughts?

Highlights can cause you to be optimistic if you forget what they are: HIGHLIGHTS. It doesn't take long for a RB to "get it." Chances are the light won't suddenly come on on year three. He's still good to have on the team though because of his speed but he's no bellcow.

Half of the runs in the video shouldnt be "highlights". How is a 4 or 5 yard run untouched considered a highlight? Miller only gets what yards his OL gives him. He never turns a busted play into a positive one, or creates more yards than the OL gives him. He's a backup RB at best imo.

Positives:

Miller is fast.

Reminds me of the careers of other such players; ie Clyde Gates
And Moreno isn't, and that is the biggest difference between the two, other than maybe Moreno's better pass pro. If you think Moreno is going to look like the same back he did as a donkey your in for a disappointment when he runs behind this line. Miller will end up with a higher YPC than Moreno, and if he gets as many carries will have more yards.

You have to want to run the ball to be successful. i never got the impression it was important to Sherman or even Philbin for that matter. O Line problems did not help.
I guess you could fault Nixon for the inability of his backs to pass protect. That's part of their job description.

One of the most discouraging things about last year was 3rd and 1. Early on it got to the point you knew we had no chance, vs even average DLs. So we give up even trying, we just start throwing the ball on 3rd and short. To me that was like giving up on the season. If you don't have the heart and grit to get a single yard, it puts so much pressure on your QB. He has to make every 3rd down throw perfect or it will result in a punt. The way to win in the NFL is to execute 1st and 2nd to end up with a 3rd and short, but when those 3rd and shorts can't be picked up with your running game, 1st and 2nd might as well be bombs.

What video did you watch? He had ZERO runs on that video for 4-5 yards. He had 10 carries that were over 10 yards, many of those over 20, and 9 carries in the 7-10 yard range. And he had a few nice cutbacks or bounced it outside when the blocking wasn't there, so your whole " only gets what his OL gives him" and " never turns a busted play into a positive one" and " creates more yards than the OL gives him" is pure crapola. If you don't like him, that's fine, but to just flat out make stupid, entirely false comments about a video of him is saying more about you than him IMO.

I am not saying he is the answer, but he has a lot more positives than negatives in his abilities to be a dynamic, big play waiting to happen, change of pace back. I, personally, would like to see him on this years roster splitting carries with KM.

did you do the math on this thesis by yourself or did you have help?

Better go watch the video again. Then go watch the Moreno "highlite" video again too and look at the difference. Miller is by far our guy that you put in when you are looking to make something dynamic happen. That video proved that.

Miller ran the first 4-5 yards untouched on almost every play in that video. I said he only gets the yards his OL gives him, and I stand by that statement. If you want to call that a "stupid, entirely false comment", well I'd have to seriously question your ability to even break down a flag football game. Having a few nice runs out of 170 carries is not what I expect out of my starting RB.

What you said was "Miller only gets what yards his OL gives him" which on the runs he bounced outside on the video clearly proved to make your statement inaccurate. Now if you want to say he doesn't do it often enough or have another problem that's fine but he has the ability to get quite a bit more than the OL gives him on certain plays. I think this year after people see him vs Moreno behind the same OL, Miller will start getting more respect.

People want to lay all of Ryan's trouble on the OL, and with reason, but how much more so should they blame the OL with the running game's troubles. Our pass blocking graded out MUCH higher than our run blocking last year.
