Just saw some clips of today's practice on NFL Total Access and saw that Larry Johnson was taking handoffs from Chad Henne, with the first-team OL paving the way.

Might mean nothing, but I thought it was noteworthy.

Anybody at practice today who can add to this?

and why is this a big deal dude? we signed the guy to be a backup, nothing more.

I think the jury is still out whether he's going to take over the role we've seen Daniel Thomas in so far this preseason, i.e., the primary guy sharing carries with Reggie Bush with the first team.

If he's taking handoffs from Chad Henne behind the starting OL in practice, rather than taking handoffs from Matt Moore and/or Pat Devlin, I think that lends credence to the idea that he'll be in Daniel Thomas's role, rather than in the "Kory Sheets" role.

I think it is pretty significant that larry playing with the 1st team.
Im thinking he was brought in to push Thomas while teaching him the ropes
and to keep bush and Thomas fresh i would not be surprised if all 3 split the carries equally.

lol, you actually think this guy is going to take daniel thomas #2 spot on the depth chart after the way thomas has been playing? thomas has done a great job running the ball, theres no way larry johnsons passes him on the depth chart.

i dont think its significant..they wana know how good he is with our o-ine because tony is silently gushing about this line. They definately wanna see what he has and not waste anybodys time.

Larry will be an option all year long they wanna see how he runs with each unit. They do this all the time with other posistions in years past it been more prevalent but cause of the lock out not so much. But you see how they like to use rookies and new guys right away but in a diminished role. I think Larry will be the same. Varied nuances to run blocking and how each running back follows their blocks. I think we will get a small dose of Larry of Saturday.

We shall see. I don't think you or I or anybody else here knows.

Anybody here who says he knows should instantly lose all credibility.

I don't this has any real significance one way or another in regards to Reggie Bush or Daniel Thomas. If Larry makes the team, those are the guys he will be playing with, not the backups. If, and I can't stress enough IF, Larry makes the team he is probably looking at a few carries a game and maybe playing in goaline situations.

How did he look?

Right, but I don't think the full depth chart gets snaps with the first team simply because that's who they'll be playing with if and when they play. I don't think Phillip Livas, for example, is lining up opposite Brandon Marshall and getting balls thrown at him from Chad Henne during practice.

Wasn't Colombo just a "depth" signing and now even after being the worst at everything he is starting. With the people who are currently in charge fans have the right to be worried about everything.
