Larry Johnson Practicing with the First Team

hey Andy, shouldn't you be hunkered down in a secure corner, getting drunk with Tyler about now? (stay safe)

Yea all is secured and ready for the blows - thanks!

Right, but I don't think the full depth chart gets snaps with the first team simply because that's who they'll be playing with if and when they play. I don't think Phillip Livas, for example, is lining up opposite Brandon Marshall and getting balls thrown at him from Chad Henne during practice.

Exactly, it is happening for a reason. Perhaps it is nothing more then showing D Thomas he will have to work for the job he believes that he was given.

If we would have kept Ricky Williams and said the best man plays then I think D Thomas would have been working harder.

Now out the street L Johnson gets a couple of the very few 1st team practice reps, I'm sure coming straight out of D Thomas's reps.

They are sending a signal or showing that L Johnson is going to carry the ball this week. L Johnson does not need a 1st team offensive reps to learn anything or show anything.

Don't see it as significant, yet. Sparano said he wants Johnson to just be a piece on this team. Unlike many here, I listen to what Sparano has to say and go with his word.

Using your example, Livas wouldn't be running with the 1st team b/c he isn't expected to contribute much in the passing game. Also being a rookie, he's not established in the NFL. Johnson on the other hand has at least done some good things in this league but only b/c he's been given the chance to.

lol, you actually think this guy is going to take daniel thomas #2 spot on the depth chart after the way thomas has been playing? thomas has done a great job running the ball, theres no way larry johnsons passes him on the depth chart.

lol, at you. A great job? There is a reason we just picked up LJ and it is not because Thomas has been doing a great job. Sparano and Henne both just told Thomas to stop tippy toeing around and hit the hole.

"I would say that's about right," Thomas said "I've just got to lower my pads and trust my blocks and everything like that and I'm trying to get better here at practice and carry it into the next game."
Thomas is getting encouragement to make his adjustments and improvements from those around him. After his first down run failed Friday, quarterback Chad Henne told him in the huddle to hit the hole harder on second down.
And coach Tony Sparano apparently also suggested Thomas run a wee bit harder by getting on the player's case in practice.
"Yeah he was," Thomas said. "He was just telling me I need to get it in there and to stop tippy-toeing and everything like that. It was true though."

He needs boosted reps against a damn good defense.

Is it really that hard to see?
Next time something ambiguous happens I'll just PM you and find out the truth of what's going on, since your vision is so acute.

Larry Johnson is a lesson sent to D Thomas by Sparano and out FO.

"Are you watching the way he hits the LOS and makes short yardage plays?"

I think that our FO passed on better backs to bring L Johnson in.

I think the jury is still out whether he's going to take over the role we've seen Daniel Thomas in so far this preseason, i.e., the primary guy sharing carries with Reggie Bush with the first team.

If he's taking handoffs from Chad Henne behind the starting OL in practice, rather than taking handoffs from Matt Moore and/or Pat Devlin, I think that lends credence to the idea that he'll be in Daniel Thomas's role, rather than in the "Kory Sheets" role.

They don't want the first team defense beating up on their new toys, Bush and DT. LJ won't survive the final cuts.

At the same time DT needs to learn how to run effectively in the NFL.

Thomas is a wasted draft pick, we should have drafted Ryan Mallett.

Best man plays!

Agree on that one. But why in gods name did we just waste a 2nd round draft pick on a RB that can't even be a RB2? Besides a punter, isn't a RB the easiest transition into the NFL?

I am no mastermind like the FO, but wouldn't it of made more sense to trade that pick for a TE, QB, ect.. or use it on a player that starts.
