Larry Johnson Practicing with the First Team

They are still moving people in and out. Of course you will see Johnson taking reps with the first team, they need to see what he has. Regardless of him being a turd in the past, at present time he is better then any back we have except Bush. Sorry to people who love Hilliard and others but plain truth is, Johnson, when his head is screwed on , can do some sserious serious damage.

Wow, people really dont think this guy can do anything anymore. I understand how bad he has been the last few years and i've seen some tape , but maybe just maybe he has another good year left in him? I sure hope so.

I still think we should have just brought Ricky back though......

First off ricky burned his bridges. He wasn't coming back. I think they brought in a vet because the hardest thing for young rbs to get is pass protection and blitz pickup. Larry johnson all ready knows how to do that stuff.

Did you see how pissed sparano was when Daniel Thomas coughed it up in that first goal line play?

They felt they needed lex Hillard to punch it in for them that should tell you something..

It is clear that keeping Ricky and Ronnie would have been the best option. We are told that the fall off our last year's offensive line led to our problems running the ball. With a better OL we win more games and they run for more YPC.

So what changed? We drafted a guard to play center and spent 3 picks to get a slower version of Ronnie Brown.

Another way to look at it if we really wanted a RB, two of the 3 running backs drafted ahead of D Thomas are out for the year( R Williams and M Leshoure) so we do have the best running back after M Ingram.

I could start the first "players we could of drafted" post but my point is we did have two veteran decent running backs here and we would add R Bush to them. And then draft Pouncey, another offensive lineman(instead of a running back) and Gates and Clay etc.

Wring the last good year out of Ronnie and Ricky as power backs. Add R Bush as a passing option.

Right now we are picking the power part of our running game off the street. You could of still had Ronnie and Ricky who would have been better the D Thomas and anyone we can still get this year. Maybe within a year D Thomas will get to Ronnie or Ricky's level. But not this season.

If the OL is the problem then fix the OL. We drafted one rookie starter but we needed two. If this season breaks down it will be because our OL will fail.

I guess I expected us to make a big OL free agency signing but it never happened.

One of our problems is that we act like children in a business. Parshall and all his "my way" crap when no one believed him anymore. Ronnie and Ricky would have returned if a decent offer had been made. If we had talked to them at all to stay they would have but Ireland does not like anyone that sticks out, it's like he hits all the nails down.

But you are right on pass protection and a rookie RB in the NFL. I do not see L Johnson being much good on 3rd downs so....but both Ronnie and Ricky would. D Thomas could get Chad Henne killed.

"two free agents on your team are worth several on the street"

Maybe to see if he really does have anything left in the tank.

I wish people would just let Ricky and Ronnie go. Ricky said stuff that gets you out of a team, 10 times out of ten. And Ronnie? I mean if we dont want Thomas tippy toeing, then the last guy you want on this team is Ronnie Brown. And LJ is 3 years younger than Ricky and just 2 years older than Ronnie, you might not like the guy but to act like he's 70 years old is kind of over reacting IMO...

lol, you actually think this guy is going to take daniel thomas #2 spot on the depth chart after the way thomas has been playing? thomas has done a great job running the ball, theres no way larry johnsons passes him on the depth chart.

Not to say it will happen, but anything is possible. It's not like he is going to take the number one spot. I could easily see him in the number 2 spot. But I too would rather see Thomas there.

Probably better options available at final cut-down. Even so
long shot he makes roster.

I found this to be VERY interesting. Found this on CBS sports.

News: Dolphins rookie RB Daniel Thomas raised eyebrows by admitting coach Tony Sparano has told him he needs to run harder. “He was telling me I need to get it up there and stop tippy-toeing.” Thomas said QB Chad Henne told him the same thing in the Carolina game. Thomas managed 52 yards on 12 carries with a 4-yard touchdown in the game despite the criticism.
Analysis: Thomas had decent numbers in the game, but speculation on his hesitant running has grown since the team signed veteran RB Larry Johnson. Sporano is eager to get a look at the former Pro Bowler. “We’re trying to get Larry up to speed here on a few things that the guy might be able to do so we can get an evaluation on him," the coach said. "That’s really it.”

People are really overreacting with daniel thomas, in my opinion hes doing fine out there. Sparano is going to push him to get better thats what a coach is suppose to do but im sure sparano is pleased at hows hes done so far with the holes hes gotten but sparano wants to keep pushing him so improves everyday. If sparano tells thomas how great hes doing he is going to lay back and get comfortable doing average, a great coach keeps pushing the player, especially a rookie like thomas. Props to sparano. As for chad henne, he needs to worry about his own f-ing problems, he had 1 good game against the panthers and he thinks he can run his mouth alrdy? stfu henne and worry about yourself buddy, you are on the hot seat, not thomas.

Why didn't we keep Ricky again?:oldman:

It's easy to say, "Why didn't they keep Ricky?" or "Why didn't they keep Ronnie?" Put yourself in their situation. Ronnie & Ricky are both playing for winning franchises. My guess is they were tired of losing. Same goes for any other veteran free agent. This isn't Madden where you just select the player you want and throw money at him.

He has to want to be here, too.
