Lazor Impact

If we're able to run an uptempo offense in the Miami heat and humidity opposing defenses will melt by the third quarter. And as we've seen from the Eagles, on the road its also a good way to take the opposing teams fans out of the picture. Up-tempo is the key to winning 11 or 12 games imo and for every addition I make as a coach/GM my first question would be is he a good fit for up-tempo?

Exactly! We should be taking full advantage of that heat and humidity. From what I've seen Philbin seems to constantly rotate guys in and out to keep bodies fresh, and we have a team made up of a lot of young guys. The only positions on the offense that can't be constantly subbed in and out are the QB and the O-line, so what that means is we need young fresh legs on the line to be able to handle a high tempo offense throughout most of the game. So far what I've seen in FA is 2 "younger" starters (Albert, Smith) and a semi young potential starter(Fox) added to the roster. Pouncey is obviously still young and now we have to assume a G and a T will be drafted.

My prediction.....Tannehill and his boys better be in the best cardiovascular shape of their lives because i believe Lazor will have them sprinting up and down the field if Tannehill is able to manage that style of attack with minimal errors. (which i believe stats show he was good in the 2 min drill last year?)

Interesting article that relates to Lazor's potential impact on the running game (assuming he brings a chunk of Chip Kelly's offense with him):

Today, I’m going to take a thorough look at running back Yards-Per-Carry (YPC) data from the past six years. I’ll be adjusting the rushing numbers of each back based on the number of defensive backs on the field. As you can see in our first chart, backs who face significantly more Nickel or Dime than Base are operating at a major advantage.

Wish we could fire Philbin and hire Lazor as HC. I know Lazor hasn't done anything to warrant a HC gig but he seems to have his stuff together, is young, and appears to have a clear vision as well as leadership qualities. All stuff Philbin has struggled with. We all know if we have success Lazor will get hired as a HC on another team leaving Philbin here in Miami and us going back to our losing ways. Just my opinion of course.
Philbin was too close to his mentor and personal friend, Mike Sherman. We now get to see how Joe leads his Offensive Coordinator in a normal type situation. Joe's strength is Offense and he has a creative young guy in Lazor who has a track record of developing talent. Let's see how Joe handles it. Let's observe fairly and objectively.

With McCarthy at oc, I always felt like he was on the sidelines like "man that tannehill sure is good in the 2-minute offense. Its too bad that we can't use that all the time!".

I like what he says about Shelly Smith

However, Baldinger sees another new player besides Albert having a major positive impact on that positional group: guard Shelley Smith.

“He’s kind of undersized, so that’s the knock on him. But they picked him up off the street in St. Louis and they plugged him in,” said Baldinger.” There was a period of time in St. Louis where maybe two years ago where he was about as good a run blocker at that position as there was at left guard in the league. He could come off the ball and he could roll his hips. He’s a guy you want to keep your eye on as they try to rebuild this offensive line.”

Really hope he's right about Smith.

To me the key to running up an up tempo O is converting 3rd downs, no point in running up tempo when you can't stay on the field and put pressure on your own D. Sherman was pretty good in the red zone given we didn't really have a big target or a strong run game, Lazor has a lot of work to do. Questions would be what all extra people are we going to get from the draft for him to work with, will Wallace still be here, can we have a good run game?

This is my favorite part of the article " I think you could see a condensing of the playbook." because it could make it easier for the players to play faster. It could mean better and more consistent execution of plays.

I can't believe Lynch's name isn't mentioned once in that entire article. Lynch is one of the best power backs I've seen, his ability to continue his leg drive and move the pile whether he's moving forward, backward or even sideways is incredible.

I instantly thought of this when I read the title of this thread:
