Hoops, FYI Egnew is listed at 255#'s on the official webpage. So he hasn't lost any weight.
yeah i dig...kind of like i digged in 2012 and 2013 also
Hard to say what to think of Egnew. In 230 snaps last year, he was our best blocking TE (still not good), and caught 7 of 10 passes for 69 yards. Lazor may see him differently than Sherman, and maybe he works out. I believe we keep four TE's, and think that if Lazor sees nothing in Egnew, we could well add Keller. There is no other roster competition for him.
I think the fourth tight end could come down to Egnew or Gator Hoskins, but Hoskins would have to look pretty good to avoid spending a year on the practice squad. Also if the team is going to use a lot of 3 and 4 wide receiver sets there might not be as much of a need for having four tight ends on the roster? I would lean toward keeping four tight ends, but wouldn't be shocked if the team elected to go with three on the roster and one on the practice squad.
I'm thinking that Lynch needs a year, and would be on the bubble more than Egnew for #4.
Honestly dont remember many people hyping Egnew at all. Everyone wanted him gone since hard knocks. I was one of the few who thought he could have a role with the team if he was used in a smart manner... Such as being the 2nd TE on goaline plays and in the redzone. He has the size/athletic ability to jump over most defenders, he should have been in the game during redzone/goaline situations (last season). Especially when we really didnt have a goaline target on the team for Tannehill to throw the ball up for grabs to. I know he didnt have many catches, but he made a few tough grabs and didnt drop any.
Dont take this as me saying Egnew is and will be a great player. I just feel like he was used very poorly and i wouldnt be surprised if he had a solid year this year and got more playing time because of his improved blocking ability and his measurables.
There is no way that Lynch would be cut over keeping Egnew.
"He's a p---y," the second player said. "He's not a football player."
"You look at his body, look at his hips, he's built strange," Bokamper said. "He's not built like an NFL tight end. I had to cover tight ends and deal with tight ends my entire career and I never saw one built like that."

Right, a #5 pick is a lock. Sorry, not seeing that.
Re Egnew, it's hard to give up on someone with his measurables. 6'5", 255lbs, 4.5 40 yrd dash, 37" vertical, 11' broad jump, 7.0 3 cone, 33" arms. You just don't see those kind of measurables very often. Problem is trying to get that ability to translate into football skill. I would have to think that Lazor is going to try awful hard to figure out a way to make this work. Maybe (probably) it just won't work out but those kind of measurables are just too tantalizing to throw on the scrap heap before Lazor gets a chance to see what he can do with it.
