yeah usually...new offense so you never know...teams will just man that up with a lb though and take their chances if we flex it and probably win...his production will be scheme and what the d gives you dictated if any...just like his production to date has been in the passing game...he won't ever be a dictate to the defense guy

there's at least 5 wrs and 3 tight ends that should make the 53 over him...and two of those tight ends are as run of the mill in the passing game as you will find in the pros

We keep hoping he develops, but if he hasn't at this point...I don't know if he will....Dan Campbell is a good position coach and has developed his players...you can see Egnew has gotten better as a player. I just don't know what he actually brings to the offense...there is nothing note worthy about him.
 
Lord help us if he does make the team, 'cause everyone knows if they don't bite as pups....

bad pick point blank...a 5th round developmental value in the 3rd round from a gimmick college offense...his effort and technique as a blocker has improved leaps and bounds...he was pillow soft when he came out...but you can't change the package in a positive way adding more weight to a one speed no burst no change of speed no defeat actual man coverage tight end even at the college level...not that he saw much of anything but free releases and plays in wide open space in college

miamis just trying to salvage the kid cause they are underwhelmed with the in line overall play and feel lynch will add some of that and the kid blew blocking assignmnts all over the place lined up as a lead blocker in the backfield...

miscast from the day he got here...tried to make him into something he's really not...260 plus this has fail written all over it...240's i'm intrigued a smidge i guess
 
The only role I could see Egnew filling is in the redzone as a towering figure hanging out in a soft spot. I dont see how he could beat a LB or S in man coverage. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make the team this year.

I worry when the coaching staff has to keep experimenting with a guy to try and get something useful out of him. I think they'll give this experiment through camp, maybe even into some of pre-season, but if he doesn't show flashes of play-making, he'll not be on the roster come regular season. If he is, it's because others have failed even worse than him. Too many coaches and FO staff's jobs are on the line to wait another year or two for guys that should have developed already.
 
Believe me when I say that Lazor will change a lot of the offensive woes that we have seen here for many years.

Lazor may even be capable of getting production out of Lamar Miller.

Lazor is certainly the best hire we've made this decade.
 
I don't think Miami is moving Egnew to wr, just lining up the tight end outside more. You will likely see Clay outwide and in the slot more too, but that doesn't make him a wr. I think Miami just wants to use one of their tight ends in a role similar to Jimmy Graham and Aaron Hernandez.
 
Something that I have mentioned before that made Shula such a great coach we may be possibly be seeing happening here with Egnew. Shula was willing to accomidate his coaching to match his talent instead of trying to make his talent fit his coaching style. Egnew was a glorified reciever in Missouri and it looks like Lazor went back to Egnews college tapes to figure that out. Egnew for his credit bulked up and blocked fairly well last year but that was not what he was in college. Now Egnew still may not make it in the NFL if he cannot seperate from coverage but the guy can catch the ball as he proved in college his junior year when he caught 90 plus passes leading the nation or close for tight ends that year. His senior year they had a coaching change in Missouri which led to a drop to about 50 catches that year. So it looks like we are at least attempting to work Egnew to his strenghts now. Just a reminder to for those who wish to give up Clay took about 3-4 years to develop! Another reason why someday we need to get all this front office churning stopped.
 
I just think if you have a defender/rebounder like Dennis Rodman you don't play him only a few minutes per season and when you do you play him you send him on the court to be your three point specialist.

Egnew is young he'll get a chance either in Miami or elsewhere, and when he does I wish him well.
