League Sources: Daboll Favorite For Dolphins Job

Yea its strange they havent announced Daboll given the Bills have been eliminated. Ross has to be waiting on someone else to fully decide. McDaniel is still coaching, maybe he is the guy. My money is on McDaniel with a remote chance at Harbaugh.
I get a McDaniel vibe as well. Either is a roll the dice, but both would seemingly be excellent choices for Tua's development.

Daboll is probably the best option out of the candidates we’ve mentioned. Now if you paired Daboll with Watson at QB then that could get scary good!

Ok, I’m going to my room to cry for a bit.

Horrible idea. It just looks like Ross/Grier brought a guy who can work with Tua.

I just think this is a total downgrade.
Hard to say. I know Daboll is a roll the dice. But if he can help Tua reach his ceiling and the Dolphins can continue the same scheme under Josh Boyer on defense, that could be a win.

If Daboll brings Dorsey and Martindale with him then sign me up.

Again, and I don't know why this is a thing.. Dorsey is not coming with him.

1. Dorsey has no prior relationship with Daboll before the Bills.
2. Dorsey has a prior relationship with the Bills HC and GM
3. The Bills HC brought Dorsey to the Bills, not Daboll
4. Josh Allen has publicly endorsed him for OC

Dorsey will be the Bills OC.

What has Daboll done w offenses not helmed by Allen? Record was crap. Very good chance Allen makes him look better than he is. Analogous to hiring Gase…whose QB was Manning. W/out Manning he was a joke.
That is the risk. For what it's worth, I like his background better than Gase's. Yes, Allen's development made him look great. But he coached under Saban. Spent time with Bellichick, including one year on the defensive side. Who knows? I personally would go Harbaugh or Pedersen.

BTW I think the connection to Tua is overhyped. They really barely worked together in game situations.

While he's obviously more familiar than a random coach, its not like he's been side by side with Tua starting for years at Alabama.
Maybe true. But if he ends up being hired in Miami it probably indicates that he likes Tua's upside and believes he can get that out of him.

If we’re going to hire another first time HC who’s specialty is the offensive side of the ball, it REALLY needs to be McDaniel over Daboll.

Daboll’s offense was playing absolutely phenomenal- especially in the playoffs, and he does deserve props for that. He also does deserve some credit in Josh Allen’s development, but his resume overall is full of some pretty average offenses.

The thing with McDaniel is the fact that he’s mastered an established system on offense that has proven time and time again to get results. McDaniel’s running schemes are innovative as hell and we’re watching that 49er offense have success running the ball versus playoff quality NFL defenses that know the run is coming and they’re winning games despite average to poor performances coming from their QB.

McDaniel needs to be the hire.
Agree with this. I've seen a lot of SF games and that running game is so hard to slow down. It's really different from the rest of the league.

Once that running game is going, those receivers are wide open on play-action. It's a fantastic system, but I think Miami would have to be patient with it. Fix the offensive line, give it a year or two, and that's a great way to match up with Buffalo, KC, Cincinnati and whoever else emerges.

I also think Tua could potentially be a superstar in that system.

To be clear…I’m not thrilled with Daboll. Am I happy it’s not Vance Joseph? Yes….Very much so. However, Daboll just doesn’t seem like the best guy for the job to me. What has he done besides calling plays for one of the best QB’s in the league??

I’ve said it before….I want a coach that makes his players better every week. A strategic thinker that will out-coach other coaches. A HC that makes me say “Damn….That was an amazing call”. Think….The Hook and Lateral against San Diego or the Fake Spike against the New York Jest. When is the last time we can say one of our HC’s out coached a good opponent? The Ronnie Brown Wild Cat game against the Patriots? Other than that….I can’t remember one.

Is Daboll that guy? I don’t know….But right now I don’t get that vibe from him. I may be wrong….I’ve been wrong before. If it’s not Harbaugh…I was kind of thinking McDaniel was a young version of that guy and might be fun to take a chance on.

Anyway…. As I always say….”We’ll See”

From what I've read, his running game uses some fancy blocking schemes. Who in Miami's Front Office is capable of finding o-linemen that can handle complicated blocking schemes? After three years of trades, drafting, and Free Agency, the best they could come up with was the worst o-line in the entire league! If they hire McDaniel, he'd better be able to find his own o-linemen.
I think Tomlinson would be an option if McDaniel is hired. But, yes I'd depend on his expertise in finding some college linemen.

I still really wouldn’t believe what alot of these guys are ‘speculating’. I have seen tweets of 4 guys as the favorite.

Dorsey will be promoted to Bills OC. I actually liked the defensive staff the Dolphins had last year and wouldn’t be upset if the next HC keeps the defensive staff. As long as he gets rid of every coach on the offense.
My only concern with that plan is that we may not still have everybody who was responsible for our defense the second-half of the season. We don't have Flores and I wonder how much he was involved with the D. The defense over the second-half of the season seemed more like the defense Flores ran in NE. I worry that the defense over the first half was our current defensive staff's doing and our D the second-half was due to Flo's influence. I have no idea if that is what happened. There were rumors, but never any confirmations.
