Magoo's Keys to the Game (Patriots edition)

With that pure insight magoo, id appreciate you make a prediction. Atleast a both sides prediction as I like to do. It goes one way or another, basically because of your 10 points, its usually a 6 to 4 advantage for the winner type of deal. Good analysis.

When it comes to the Dolphins, I'm much better at seeing the angles than I am at being honest on how they'll turn out. A while back I cringed when looking at this game, expecting a slaughter. The closer and closer we get, the more optimistic I get, despite it all.

The thing that makes Brady and Belichick legends is that you can go in knowing you have advantages, know there are things you can do that will really make them uncomfortable... and they still beat you. That's what makes them so great.

By game time I'll expect that we'll win. But by game time I be something other than a rationally functioning human being.

Great write up Mr. Magoo. Well done and I am sticking this on the top of the forum for everyone to find and read easily. I will do this each week as you write it.

Do you stack a TE inside to help out the right side of the line? If I'm the Pats D I'm attacking from C to RT, attacking Long and Incoginto is useless. Your thoughts on how to protect?

Throw into the area they are attacking from. This offense is short routes and timing designed to get one on one match ups. Quick slants or screens will slow it down but again, I think BB will opt to pressure with just his DL.

I really enjoy well thought out posts like yours Magoo, nice work bud keep it up.

I'm right there as well. When camp opened I was very concerned about the first 5 games and was expecting a blow out in this one. After watching camp and the glimpses we got of Henne and this offensive philosophy change, how much more relaxed Sparano looks, listening to the players talk about Henne, Henne and Marshall communicating and the addition of Burnett which should resolve our problems with TE coverage, I am starting to let the resistance to get excited melt.

This is a game that is ripe for the pickings to be an upset and no doubt if Sparano can get these guys ready mentally, I see no reason why the Phins cant win.

Good question. I didn't include anything about Colombo and Carey because there's really nothing to say other than what's been said by many others. You can move the TE in or keep a back in but that limits your offense. Early on I expect they'll just see how bad it is and then react.

That's why I think they should try runs to the perimeter and a heavy dose of wide receiver screens, especially early. Force those interior guys to chase those plays. Wear them out. Then you'll have a better chance late in the game (assuming our guys are better conditioned).

One thing that's going to help us is that since NE is historically a 3-4 team, their personnel is still very much suited to that style of defense. These are not the quick one gap penetrators that Tampa has. These are bigger, stronger guys. And that, at least, suits our "maulers" mentality up front. But one thing I expect them to do if we go empty is to rush at least one linebacker or safety up the middle. They'll want to make sure they have one on one matchups across the board and see what happens when it's Haynesworth vs. Vernon Carey.

At the end of the day, if your right guard and tackle are turnstiles like they were against Tampa, there's not all that much you can do. You lose, basically.

Excellent post Magoo, as per your usual. You've definately established yourself as one of the best posters on this site. Please keep up the good work.

Excellent read. Very informative and insightful. Can't wait until Monday night...

I don't. McCourty is one of the best young corners in the game, imo. Both he and Joe Haden of the Browns look like they're the real deal. I love Smith and Vontae but McCourty was a better rookie than both of them.

We'll see where he's at. Vontae is a lock down corner imo. Mccourty has the ability but lets see him take it to the lockdown level of Vontae and Smith.

Ok let me explain what im trying to say.

McCourty as a rookie was better than Vontae and Smith, hell he had one of the best rookie season from a corner in a long time. I want to see.him this year when he doesnt surprise people and see if he can lockdown number 1s like Davis does. Snith is even a great lockdown cb. I live Mccourty as a player. He is gonna be a top 5 corner for awhile. But I'm not claiming him the next coming of Deion when IMO we have 2 better cover corners than him.

This is the type of fandom I like to see! Screw rationality, rabid, unbridled support is the only way to go.
