Mando: Advice for Steve Ross to Clean Mess

This team is not coached well. The are wildly inconsistent. Sometimes flat to start. Struggle to keep leads. Little in the way of creativity. There is a striking inability to develop players overall. They simply underachieve in general. Couple this with the impending investigation, they have to start fresh with a new staff.

At the start of the year, I wanted Joe and his staff to come back for a 3rd year no matter what...maybe a 4th year. That has all changed with the course of events. Do I think he is at fault for the Martin ****? No. However, he has become a toxic asset. Too bad really, but the team has to turn the page.

Ewwwhhh, I actually find myself in agreement with you!

If things get blown up I see the team taking a step back for at least next year. The way the roster is set up I think all or most of the veterans would leave and the younger CB DL and TE would play alot until the new GM can evaluate them and also reshape the roster once again.

Ain't gonna happen. It also doesn't excuse not being able to beat a winless Tampa team
with 10 days off, or not being able to beat a 4th string QB and a bad Buffalo team. Not to
mention not being able to wipe the floor with ANYONE.

haha I agree with you .... but what if

my point is it may be a tad too early still to make this kind of decision

too early still. beats the Jets twice, and the steelers & bills and i'll cut them some slack.

It's a pity Nicholas II of Russia is not available. He had hands on experience working as a Czar and is probably younger than Bill Polian. Nick passed on his learnings and imperial style to Bill Parcells.

Hilarious :thanks:

This team is certainly an enigma and impossible to figure out. They do always play hard and can beat the Panthers if the right team shows up but who knows anymore.

If they can bring put it together with everything negative that is going on and somehow beat the Panthers or even keep it close it will send right message that things maybe aren't all that bad in Fishlandia.

If, on the other hand, they get blown out on Sunday, then the SWHTF.

respectfully I disagree. we want to get traction with Joe, he needs 2-3 more seasons. Ross wanted the "Green Bay Way"; for that to take root, realistically it's 3-5yrs; 3-5 full seasons/off-seasons to get all the pieces/parts needed. prob with that is, he (Ross) - like us - is a fan, and tends to react/report with fan enthusiasm, and or depression. gotta side with Mando's observation: Ross can't be the guy everyone answers to, and not be 'on the ground' every day. we need one guy, one finger - a Peterson/Polian type - pushing the buttons; a pres/GM whom everybody answers to, and gets them to do what they're paid to do... so Ross can sit in his box, and cheer like the rest of us.

If they manage to sweep the jests,

the season will still be a total success to me, despite all the insanity. :brewskis:

Agree with john myself, if you are going to take you time integrating rookies into the starting line up you need to be given time to get things in place. Would still be a fan of Philbin.

Love Dan, but after last time, I would never trust him with an FO position again.

I would trust Dan to be a part of major decisions, but not in the day to day operations of the team.
He would be a fine executive IMHO and add some needed respect to the front office and bridge this franchise back to the winning tradition of the Shula years.
You cannot have too many good football men as part of the team.

I agree with the concept of the Green Bay way. The problem is that Philbin is too stoic. He needs to show more emotion when the troops need to be rallied. He also needs to make better decisions in some key moments and not just follow the game plan. Some unpredictability would give him another dimension and give the opposing coaches something else to think about.
Shermin has proven to be inconsistent, and lacking creativity, not Philbin.
With this whole Pu$$ygate mess still being investigated, it is too soon to think about other GM's and coaches. We will have time for that in 6 weeks.

I don't think Marino brings anything to the table at all in terms of any big
picture decisions. He was never overly cerebral as a player, and quit
on the team when he went upstairs. If I was a football person, there's nothing
that bringing Marino to the table would do to convince me one way or
the other about the team.

Now, you want to bring Shula in on the process? I've got no problem with that.
I just question if he's in good enough health.

The "Green Bay" way is not the answer... how is that "system" doing without Rodgers? And, Philbin/Sherman just don't like to run the ball. They have their offense all mapped out in their heads, but when the players can't execute it to perfection they just stand by and watch... no personnel changes, no scheme changes, nothing to take advantage of the talent on the field. To them, changing the system is blasphemy; it's the players that need to be changed. I don't want a coaching staff that can't be flexible. It would be a huge waste of time and effort to give these guys 2-3 more years to get the players needed to run their system. When things aren't working in their favor during a game they don't have the ability to make meaningful and efficient adjustments, and 3 years from now when an opponent shuts down their system they'll still be scratching their heads on the sideline.
