Mando: Complex Decision of Firing Philbin's Assistants

would u pass up a dysfunctional job if it meant you could be paid hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars? Idk many jobless people/coaches that would turn that down. Especially if they have a budding star qb and talent on the offensive line.

huh?

Did not realize George Edwards was coaching the LBers......ugh, double ugh.

Explains alot.

I have it on good authority that Joe Philbin has had final say on personnel decisions dating back until at least 2008.

Philbin has had input on personnel decisions for two drafts and two free agency periods. And those periods just happen to coincide with major decisions that everyone discusses here....Wheeler & Ellerbee over Dansby & Burnett, letting Reggie Bush walk away, dumping Brandon Marshall & Vontae Davis, not re-signing Long, drafting Martin & Dallas Thomas, signing Mike Wallace.

There has been significant roster.turnover over the past two seasons, and let's not pretend Philbin sat back and watched it happen without any input.

I am not in any way defending Ireland, I am only saying Philbin bears some responsibility too.

This is just sickening. I cannot believe... I never imagined we'd be in this spot again. I thought the days of cleaning out the Spielmans and Muellers and Camerons was over. When does it end? 2032? 2056?

All this crap about hiring like minded coaches and staff makes me wonder how out of touch with reality this sport potentially is. The goal on the football side is and should be to win.

Sure, having similar ideals on scheme and execution is a bonus but we are expecting professionals to be professionals. That's what we, the fans, pay to watch. People learn to reconcile differences and work cooperatively when they know their pay and professional career is on the line. Though maybe my view is just jaded from the middle class (work or don't eat) mentality.

So you admit to being wrong about the Brandon Albert trade? Way to man up.

Umm, you got help me. I have no idea what you are saying...

My position on the Albert deal was that a move should have been made for pick 2b or 3a or a conditional for this year...and not the early pick in round 2.

Note I said decent coach and not just some flunky needing a job like when they hired Philbin.

The budding star QB is no star and really doesn't look all that bright plus the O'line is mostly devoid of talent.

We lost Reggie Bush, Jake Long, Karlos Dansby, and Kevin Burnett.....and we replace those players with worse players. We didn't get any production out of our 2013 draft class, and we headed into the draft with 5 picks in the first 3 rounds. In terms of just raw talent, this team was worse this year, yet our record improved. I honestly believe our 8-8 record is better than the talent on this team.

You do not think Joe had nothing to do with jettisoning the outspoken, but productive Dansby? Burnett was an "Ireland Guy"...you think Ireland canned him too?

At the end of the day I see Sherman, Turner, and maybe George Edwards (LB coach) fired.Contrary to what some believe I don't feel a full rebuild is needed. Just some tweaking.

works for me...that and the gm who if he talks his way out of this one ross tight knit group of confedants is nothing more than trained monkeys

If you believe we had enough talent to make the playoffs that would make the Albert trade superfluous, yes?

It always amazes me that people think the HC has absolutely NO input on the personnel decisions. Its as if Ireland just makes all his decisions in a complete vacuum and Philbin walks into Davie one day and suddenly realizes a bunch of people are gone, or takes the day off during the draft to just read about the selections in the newspaper while taking his morning dump.

The potential trade has nothing to do with what I am talking about. My point from a few posts ago was that I am TIRED of people blaming everything BUT the head coach. Was the line good enough going into the season? Probably not. However, if you go back to my posts in the spring, I also said I would "trust" Joe, Sherman and Turner if they trusted Martin. What a mistake on my part.

It is a joke. It is like Joe shows up as the JV coach and the cuts have been made for him by the varsity coach. Joe just coaches the kids given to him.

Fire them all. Really pretty simple.

But how about the most important thing to do, firing Ireland?
