Mando: Complex Decision of Firing Philbin's Assistants

I have no doubt that all of the players mentioned were on Philbin's ****list, but Ireland didn't find viable replacements for any of them. And those positions were largely ignored in the draft as well. I think Philbin did more with less this year and deserves some credit. With a decent playcaller, he could have done even more.

Who picked they playcaller? Who (reportedly) wants to keep said playcaller? Who designs the overall offensive strategy?

I just do not agree.

What position is above average? Even if can argue that one position may be slightly above average, as a whole it is not.

Get rid of everyone. That would satisfy all our fears.

Unfortunately I'm keeping a vomit bucket close by because I simply don't trust Ross to do the right thing.

I think receiving group is above average. I think Dline is excellent. I think the DB's are above average.

At some point, Joe needs to coach up players and position groups that are "average" and get them to a higher level.

Our talent level was good enough to beat 4 AFC playoff teams - coaching, in-game management, in-game adjustments, game day motivating - we fell short CONSISTENTLY in all these departments... not Ireland's job.

To be clear, our roster wasn't loaded with talent nor am I defending Ireland, but Philbin was mediocre ALL SEASON LONG and it shows with the 8-8 record, the multiple win/loss streaks and losses to division worst teams and wins against division leading teams (goes back to inconsistency from coaching).

Philbin picked the play caller. The playcaller failed, so now its time for Philbin to replace him. If he does that, then we can move forward. If he doesn't replace Sherman, then he needs to go too.

Yeah, everybody knew Ireland assembled a 16-0 roster, just go back and read the free agency and draft threads (I think there is one on the main page titled: Ireland Boss or something). OK, maybe 16-0 is pushing it with a raw second year QB, this was a 15-1 team at the very worst.

I was just talking Offense. Hartline is solid but doesn't scare anyone and Wallace runs really fast, but doesn't do much else - which makes it pretty average group IMO. QB, RBs, OL are below avg. The offense is NOT good.

DL is good, but we may lose our depth in FA. Grimes is good, but a FA (who if smart would leave) and the rest are nothing special.

Again, at what point can the coaching staff get MORE out of the group that is given to him? Evidently, in your opinion, for Joe to succeed he needs an all start roster and then he can get over the top.

How does this team beat the Pats, go 8-6 and look like garbage the last two weeks of the year? Those clunkers are on the coaching staff not the GM.

Isnt like like the Sparano situation part II? It was floated out there that he was in trouble or some decision needed to be made, but ultimately they brought him back. How'd that turn out?

Move on from Ireland (5 straight non-winning, non-playoff seasons) and Philbin now. Don't wait until after the 2014 season and another failure to do it.

The problem is the offensive weapons should have been acquired last season to give Tanny a chance at a little success and growth with those players. The protection should have been there this season to give the team a real chance at success and playoffs today, instead of putting that off until next season. Ireland has been a full year behind (hopefully its only a year) in building an offense around our young QB.

I agree that Joe brings very little to the table, I'm not really defending him, but what, in your opinion should he do with an below avg QB, no OL, no RBs, and no deep passing game?

The Pats were a complete disaster health wise, we barely beat Brady and their practice squad.

Because Tannehill had two of the worst performances of his career? Tannehill has one of the worst 4th quarter passer ratings all season and now he has his second worst game of his career with the playoffs on the line. I hate to say it but its looking like our QB might be a choke artist.

A few things that Joe has done that I do not like that goes against my personal football philosophy. One, this team is softer. I like a physical blue collar team. I think the defense has regressed on his watch. If the team was better at stopping the run and getting teams in the known passing situation, maybe they would create more turnovers. Also, the lack of commitment to the run game bothers me. I believe in running the ball to set up play action and keep the sticks moving. However, again, they have turned the offense into a finesse looking group.

I thought he was pretty clutch vs. Atlanta, Cincinnati, Pitt and home against New England.

He also gave the team a puncher's chance in losing effort vs. Baltimore.

This is just sickening. I cannot believe... I never imagined we'd be in this spot again. I thought the days of cleaning out the Spielmans and Muellers and Camerons was over. When does it end? 2032? 2056?

I am almost 60. I don't have that much time left.

God I hope you're wrong.
