Let me ask you a question: Is Tom Garfinkel qualified to run football operations? And I answer you: yes he is. He is the President and CEO of the Dolphins. While his main forte is the business side he is the boss over Aponte and the GM. What are his qualifications to reside over a GM? None. His background is the racing circuit and baseball. So while he is currently 'running' football operations you rarely hear about him.

Would Aponte be qualified to be in Garfinkels position? Absolutely.

Until we hear from the Dolphins that Aponte is in charge of drafting everything else is sour grapes and/or chauvinism. I leave that up to you to decide in which category you belong.

Very interesting how each member of the Eagle's personnel team were interviewed and spoke well. We are so used to replicating the Belichick strategy of saying nothing - except name, rank and serial number. It is interesting that Philadelphia are revolutionizing how Offense is played. It could be smart to snap up Gamble.

the infighting part of this has been mentioned before the ireland fallout. i believe it all. she did it in cleveland. but the "she and philbin are making sure ross doesnt hire anyone who can fire them thing has a lot of holes. they may want that, but getting it is another thing and i am hoping ross doesnt cut off what the team really needs, someone to get talent in here and someone who KNOWS how to run and nfl franchise, the FOOTBALL part of it.

ross will end up and even bigger laughing stock if this indeed what his plan is, two give aponte and philbin a two headed monstrosity of power. this would keep the real talent away, just as when huizenga wanted a gm but they couldnt fire wanny [all wanted to] and had to share draft and talent with wanny. THAT is why dan marino bailed and thats why all the other REAL candidates bailed.

What I find especially disappointing is that Steve Ross claimed he wanted a more fan friendly, transparent organization after Parcells left. We haven't seen that yet. It's disappointing.

Someone pointed out the other day that Ron Rivera freely gives out injury information and is fairly candid with the press. Meanwhile, Joe Philbin acts like he works for the NSA. Maybe it just doesn't matter.

For what it's worth:
I went to the Stadium on Monday. They outlined the new philosophy of fans becoming more than just fans. Especially for season ticket holders will be many events throughout the year which will bring the Dolphins as an organization closer to the fans. Season tickets will come with certain benefits and an outline on events and functions which can be attended at no extra charge. The details in writing should be available sometimes in February. I will post them as they become available.

I was never a real fan of Ross because I thought he destroys more than he does any good. But maybe he is actually cutting the corner and he sees that the way he has done business before does not work well with a football team. Fans and season ticket holders are humans, not property you can easily swap.

OK, I apologize. I'm sorry for my sexist comment to all the women out there who feel they must gossip in order to get somewhere in life and backstabbing people on the way to the top. If they are willing to do that, what else would they do to get that power? Like this scene has never been played in a movie before. That movie is sexist!

Quality names are out there already... If you believe a beat writer who's job is to be controversial than I have a bridge for a sale.. Real close to the stadium.

I don't care about beat writers. I have no infatuation with the local media like some here do. I am simply stating the obvious.... smoke and fire. Allegiances have been publicly formed. You don't need a beat writer to tell you that. And there has been enough supporting words from enough external sources for us to form a basic opinion that Aponte has placed her allegiance with Philbin.

That's all I need to know.

It's enough for me to know that the front office is toxic. If people need allegiances then we have bigger problems. And once the "allegiance" mentality has been born, there's only one way to rid your organization of it.... rid yourself of everyone that is entrenched and "needing" allegiances.

I don't care how it started. I don't care about any of it. It happened. It's been happening and it's interfering with the 53 men on the field.

When a team collapses, there is much more going on then what's on the field. It's enough for me to know the front office has been busy playing it's own games with each other for me to wave goodbye to all of them.

There's only 53 people I'm concerned about. Because they are the individuals I watch on Sunday.

If the coaches can't coach, we fire them. If the players can't execute and win, we cut them. If you're in the front office and are more worried about your own butt and placing undo stress on the coaches and players or wasting this teams resources pursuing individual goals, bye.

If everyone in this organization is not worried about the 53 men on the field and working to better them every day, we will never win Super Bowls.

I don't care how it happened. It happened. Now let's fix it.

P4E: spot on. i would have bet my harley that ross was not going to fire ireland, not this year. but, he did. and rightfully so! and, as you say, maybe, just maybe ross has turned a corner and realized that being a property tycoon has ZERO to do with NFL FOOTBALL and that he desperately needs someone to come in and run the FOOTBALL end of things.

however, i will say the recent article about the TOXIC situation with AONTE and IRELAND and PHILBIN makes me wince. i am NO FAN of aponte and it has zero to do with gender. seems everywhere she has been she has been a thorn, an instigator, agitator and self preservationist. the big picture is her and her only. the infighting/backbiting and posturing was noted before the season ended and ireland got the boot. she did this in cleveland and i believe everything reported with her, ireland and philbin as reported are true.

now we hear that both aponte and philbin are almost demanding the GM coming in has NO authority over them!! nice huh? really, a bean counter and second year coach getting the clout to decide who is their boss? the bean counter being over the GM? i have said that i think there are some holes in this and the piece was designed as sensationalism amd to poison. however, where there is smoke, theres fire. where there is a LOT OF SMOKE, there is a LOT OF FIRE!!!

if this happens, then we know ross truely is lost and there is no hope with him at the helm. it will ruin us for more years than wanny and huizenga ever did. NO ONE other than the most desperate lacky will ever agree to work under that sort structure. and we have had enough of those types!!

ROSS: hires gm, gm answers ONLY to ross and gm has ALL POWER over head coach, the draft and the coaches personel. coach can hire his assistants.

PHILBIN [or other coach] developes the players he has, over sees his coaches and practices and runs the games. answers DIRECTLY to the GM.

APONTE: in a cubicle, away from the team and coaches, crunching numbers, counting beans and organizng office personel birthday parties and friday jean days. answers to ross.

THATS IT!! thats the structure that works and keeps GOOD GM'S calling ross for interviews now and in the future.

aponte doesnt give a rats arse about philbin. she knew philbin had issues with ireland and she latched onto that. they used each other, rolled over and had a smoke and parted ways.

she would push philbin over the cliff in a heartbeat if she considered him a liability to anything she was doing. and philbin, in reality, probably was fine with it all knowing what their alliance was really about.

and her power with the owner helped him and his cause. its the "my enemies enemy is my friend" scenerio.

ross's allegiance to dawn aponte scares the crud out of me. she should have gone with ireland. she is another parcells goon [a real strange pairing there huh?] and we need non of that stench lingering.

typical finz though. super excitement happening on the right, cloud of doom hovering on the left. seems were always in a state of emotional limbo with this team in recent years.
