Mando's new blog: History between Aponte and Ireland

I just do not get it. If you are rising star as a GM, why would you not want to start the process with your own guy immediately?

Who is to say these "rising stars" might not be considered duds next year? It is like an assistant interviewing for a head coaching job, normally if offered you take it. The window of opportunity won't stay open forever and for a guy like Gamble, the Dolphins job is likely his only shot to become a GM this year.

Being anxious to have Philbin fired is clouding your common sense.

I think you do, but if you want the position you might accept the compromise as a good faith gesture with the owner. Personally, I'm hoping Ross gives the new GM a free hand to make immediate decisions.

Tell me which GM in the NFL hires his coach without input from the owner. Tell me which one, other than Ted Thompson (team owned by the residents of Green Bay) ?

Omar Khan in Pittsburgh did NOT hire Mike Tomlin. The Rooney family did. Who hired Coughlin? The Maras. Who hired and fired Gary Kubiak? Bob McNair. Who hired Sean Payton? Tom Benson.

Where does this idea that the GM picks the coach come from? The GM can be involved in the process and have input, but since when is the GM assumed to have control over the coaching search? This is crazy. Even in Oakland, where Mark Davis basically just handed the keys over to Reggie McKenzie and said "please save this mess," Mark Davis has final say over Dennis Allen's fate. The Spanos family picked Mike McCoy, btw.

From what I hear, @ArmandoSalguero was spot on about Miami’s end-of-season dysfunction within management ranks: http://hrld.us/1ihwAFE

However, I still believe the dysfunction of Ireland vs. Aponte/Philbin does not mean this job opening is radioactive. Allow me to explain...

Although Steve Ross was willing to keep Ireland in a lessened role, my understanding is the new hire has potential to possess the power.

The elimination of Ireland and Sherman quell some of dysfunctional equation. The more concerning question is: Can Ross now get this right?

Jeff Darlington ‏@JeffDarlington 53s
Plenty of people around the NFL tell me the role still merits major consideration for top-tier candidates. Now, it’s up to Ross to sell it.

Jeff Darlington ‏@JeffDarlington 26s
It’s a coveted job for number of reasons: 1. One of healthiest caps in NFL. 2. Young, talented QB. 3. Strong nucleus. 4. Non-frugal owner.

As soon as Parcell's sang Aponte's praises as he waddled out the door, I've begun to get this feeling she is one of those people that moves up in her career because the last guy is tired of dealing with her.

Next thing you know, she lands in a spot no one can remove her from with more power than anyone in her wake.

Quality individuals like Tony Dungy never have such smoke seen or told about in their lives.

Is the "Exit" door still open? I think we have a few more people that need it shown to them.

I'm at the point that I don't care who started it or how it happened, people in the FO lost sight of their jobs and responsibilities. They put themselves above the team on the field and what few fans there were in the seats. Stop letting them pick this carcass clean.

Clean house. Then sit back and watch the QUALITY names come out of the woodwork wanting to LEAD these MEN to a championship.

We have the players. We need the leadership.

I just read Darlington's tweets and he confirms the Saguero story but eliminates the bias. He also points out it is still cveted because of the good nucleus, young QB and an owner willing to spend with a good cap situation.

No reason to think they won't get a good candidate or two.

Oh do we hate Jeff Darlington now too?

I think most people agree that what Armando reported has truth to it. Heck, we had this discussion last night.

The problem is not that we think Armando is making things up. The problem is that Armando is basically just throwing out hit pieces ghostwritten by Jeff Ireland. It's laughable. Yup, I'm sure there was a lot of infighting at the end -- in fact, we basically knew it before this article even came out.

But Armando's speculation that nobody wants the job and that we are going to be stuck with Mike Tannenbaum (a name NOBODY else has even mentioned) makes you wonder what his agenda is here.

I cant even begin to list all of the things in that article that don't add up....like Ireland trying to get Aponte fired because he's paranoid about losing his own job? but at that time, Ireland was Aponte's boss so why would he need permission? And then when Ross denies his request, Ross promoted Aponte so that she is no longer under Ireland and then doubles her salary just to spite Ireland? This article reeks of BS.

Nope. If Darlington posts something I usually listen him (and Ben Volin) are no longer local beat writers but they still have the best information.

But Armando's speculation that nobody wants the job and that we are going to be stuck with Mike Tannenbaum (a name NOBODY else has even mentioned) makes you wonder what his agenda is here.

Andrew Abramson lists him and Pioli as possibilities due to the Aponte/Higgins connections but they haven't been shown much interest yet that he knows of. He's said that Miami has shown interest in Gamble, Highsmith, Eliot Wolf, and Omar Kahn for sure with Peterson, Tannenbaum, and Pioli having chances at getting interviews due to connections with different members of the FO

Is it possible that aponte didn't like Ireland and wanted him gone because he sucked at his job and has been terrible at drafting players and signing free agents?

For ****'s sake man. Everyone in the entire ****ing internet knows you want Philbin gone. You've said it in literally every ****ing thread since we found out Ireland is out. Shut the **** up about it already. Jesus ****ing christ...

Quality names are out there already... If you believe a beat writer who's job is to be controversial than I have a bridge for a sale.. Real close to the stadium.

I don't doubt Aponte and Philbin worked to push Ireland out. However:

1. Do I have a problem with that? Hell no. Ireland being gone makes this one of the best days I've had as a Dolphins fan in a while.

2. Is this kind of thing somewhat normal? Yep.

3. Is that going to scare of a new guy? Not if he's worth a damn.

4. Are Aponte and Philbin going to team up against the new guy? Aponte and Philbin used the credibility they had to get Ireland fired, just as Ireland used the credibility he had to get Sparano fired. The credibility will go to the new guy, whoever he is.

Armando is just being a jackass because he's pissed he has to make a new friend. And because Ireland is giving him stuff he's not giving anyone else. That means clicks.
