Manuel Wright may not come cheap

You are partially right about the corner issue...

Definitely CB and WR are not positions we are in need! We have Madison, Poole is out though will be back next year. Daniels seems to be a nice pickup and we could even land Law. And we also have howard, edwards that could be good backups..maybe I'm missing someone else here, roundtree?
WR?Chambers,Boston,Booker,Thompson,Welker,Davis,Newson,Bellamy..That's depth
We need DT,S and possibly QB/OL. Any pick spent at these positions are worth right now. I would be happy with a 3rd for Wright. A 2nd is a little bit a stretch

Miami wouldn't being running Eiland at corner if they didn't have an issue with at least depth. They will likely sign at least a corner or two for training camp. 6 healthy bodies isn't enough for the rigors of training camp. Eiland, a safety, was running at corner during the mini camp because they only had 6 healthy corners for drills.

The other thing to keep in mind, and this is a plus/minus, is his salary. If we get Wright, then he gets slotted in the rd in which he was picked and his salary goes agfainst the current rookie pool. That's the minus.

The plus is that getting him this year means we avoid paying the 6%-10% raise that will be realized by next year's pick in the same spot.

if he is a 1st round guy in next years draft then i wouldnt mind giving a 2nd rd.

BUT at the same time i would try to go for a 3rd and see what happens.

He wouldnt have gone in the 1st. What we have seen of Wright has been fairly impressive, but playing as a backup has limited his exposure. And, since he is academically ineligible to play at USC next year, there would have been no way to show scouts anything more. After sitting for a year, the best Wright could hope for in the regular draft is late 2nd, early 3rd round.
A 3rd is the most I would offer in the supplemental.

better dt's next year

manuel wright is a bum. at usc he was too lazy to go to class. despite his potential, he was too lazy on the field. i dont want a guy like that on the team. he is no way our 3-4 nose tackle of the future.

here are some guys that would be a lot better:
Roderique Wright, Texas
6' 5"/305 lbs.

2.* Haloti Ngata, Oregon
6' 5"/338 lbs.

3.* Gabe Watson, Michigan
6' 4"/331 lbs.

4.* Orien Harris, Miami
6' 4"/300 lbs.

5.* Le Kevin Smith, Nebraska
6' 2"/305 lbs.

I totally agree - while I love the idea of a beast of a young guy that can plug the middle this guy is not very bright. He must have been the laziest guy around to not even stay eligible when I'm sure he only had to show up 1x a month to get by. C'mon how much does he care - do you think this guy will learn a playbook :goof: or be there in the offseason working out? He does not seem to warrant a 1st day pick no way. I hope if Saban likes him he sits tight until at least the 4th and if he is there great but otherwise this kid has the potential to be a big bust. Seems way too risky!

Those who think Manuel would be a first round in the real draft are saying so a bit prematurely. This is still a player who played behind two other DTs at USC last year. Plus, there are a good amount of defensive tackles who should be first round picks next year. I don't see Manuel, with his inexperience, going ahead of other defensive tackles like Rodrique Wright from Texas, Jesse Mahelona from Tennessee, Claude Wroten from LSU, Haloti Ngata from Oregon, and Gabe Watson from Michigan.

dolphins new assistant offensive line coach is Tim Davis, a offensive line coasch last year at USC, he would know how good Wright is, and Saban will probably consult him, if he says Wright isn't worth it than we won't go after him.

KB21! Where have you been? You just disappeared after the draft.

I've been in and out. At least I've got a year of medical school behind me now though.

our third would be pick No. 66, yes?

Yes, 66 or 67. I just can't see Nick Saban spending a third round pick in next year's draft on such a questionable player at this point.

Personally I'd spend a 3rd. It's a risk, but a relatively educated one. This guy is promising and I think a 3rd is not TOO HIGH to spend. All players are going to come with question marks, some much bigger than others but if it weren't for the question marks, where would the expert scouts be today?

I'd hope we wouldn't spend a 1st day pick on him. Too many questions. Lest we forget, this is a rebuilding year and my guess is we can get a player with alot less risk in the third next year. Long term people and I hope Saban sees it the same way.

They won't :)
