Martin checked into hospital; Philbin visited; Martin never said anything about Incog

Not filing a lawsuit for money, but protecting money he already has guaranteed to him. Remember Ricky Williams? When he quit, what did Wayne Huizenga do? HE WENT AFTER RICKY for his signing bonus.

nahh i think he's after more than his rookie contract money...he's looking for i will never work again money....

the guy wants a hand out...add him to the list

I don't think money is necessarily the motive for Martin here. I think it's more likely that he wanted time away from the team for some reason, and the team made it clear that in order to be paid, he would need to play. At that point Martin played the only card he had available to be able to stay away while getting his check. He may just want a "paid vacation," not necessarily a huge monetary settlement.

bingo...this is a money grab by jon martin...smelled it from the jump...this guy doesn't want to play football he wants a hand out

He makes David Garrard look like a petty cat burglar. Jon Martin is pulling a large scale, elaborate, bank heist.

Way to contradict yourself in the span of two sentences.

You don't run a PR campaign like this for a 'paid vacation'.

yes he is and he's setting an ugly precedent for others to follow...what a piece of trash

I don't think the PR associated with this is being generated by Martin. I think media sources are taking a sensational story and doing what the media typically does with sensational stories.

Calling a person a piece of trash because he quit football...man this situation is really bringing the ugly in some...

VM/TXT from 7 months ago, leaked to the media, is a PR campaign. Who had access to the material leaked? Jon, mommy and daddy......one is in the hospital, the others Harvard educated lawyers.

Unlike most here, I will not under sell the motives of the family in this. These people are not stupid, and know they have a willing media to do their bidding.

If it didn't similarly cross Philbin's mind that the reason that Martin was in the hospital was that he and Turner's little plan to toughen Martin up had turned into Operation Butt**** Kablooie, then he's a fool. And I don't think he's a fool. I think either consciously or unconsciously he didn't want to deal with the problem, didn't want to confront it. So he didn't ask Martin about what was going on in a way that would elicit the truth. He asked in a way that would elicit a platitude that would allow him to get the hell out of there.

That would be my guess as well. I made a couple of related posts last night. There was nothing in Philbin's presser that indicated to talked to Martin in depth. It jumped out at me immediately. Sentences were missing. I posted it in the related thread as soon as that presser ended.

For all the bunk about everybody getting a trophy, one trend that disgusts me is inadequate and incomplete questioning, compared to decades ago. I see it everywhere. That's it? Where's the follow up? I can think of a half dozen follow ups. It's particularly glaring in politics. Some of these clowns have no business running for any office, let alone high office, so they are protected by their staff and detailed questioning is not allowed. If they are forced to answer, implosions are rampant if not guaranteed. I won't give specific examples but let's just say they are more frequent when the extremes of the party are responsible for the nomination.

Ugly? The truth can be ugly at times. Inconvenient to some who refuse to see it. People like you who tried to portray Incognito as some Hitler groupie, are not short of dirty hands themselves.

yeah he's trash in my book and it has nothing to do with quitting football...want to leave the game go ahead be my guest you weren't very good to begin with...

but to go this route and impact other peoples livelihoods like this so you can get a hand out??? straight trash
