Martin checked into hospital; Philbin visited; Martin never said anything about Incog

Calling a person a piece of trash because he quit football...man this situation is really bringing the ugly in some...

he IS a piece of trash. he's setting this team back yet again. the ONE $#&%ing team that can't afford to take anymore steps backwards!!!!
Here's the deal. he quit on his teammates so he can get paid. you don't think mommy and daddy saw dollar signs immediately???

man this situation is really pulling the wool over some people's eyes.

This is what I don't understand. You already quit the team. You checked into a hospital, probably the safest environment there is, and you STILL don't say a word to your coach about the harassment that made you have a mental breakdown? I don't get it.

Telling the HC doesn't help him get the largest possible settlement for quitting on the team and us the fans as well.

VM/TXT from 7 months ago, leaked to the media, is a PR campaign. Who had access to the material leaked? Jon, mommy and daddy......one is in the hospital, the others Harvard educated lawyers.

Unlike most here, I will not under sell the motives of the family in this. These people are not stupid, and know they have a willing media to do their bidding.
Sure, but I would hardly call that a "campaign." The leak could've been the minimum Martin considered necessary to pressure the team to allow him to stay away. If it stays in-house, the team can sweep it under the rug and continue to pressure him to return. Once the inflammatory material becomes public, the team becomes the bad guy if it pressures him to return.

Even I'm guilty of using this lately...

I think it may be best to steer clear of this subject until everything is brought to fruition...

It is getting to the point where some have even wished Martin would commit suicide and called Incognito some unsavory names...In the end we forget that these are both human being (I'm guilty of this) and not just football players.

Not immediately... this smells like premeditated. The second the voicemails came in, I bet they (the Martin family) started to game plan.

Ugly? The truth can be ugly at times. Inconvenient to some who refuse to see it. People like you who tried to portray Incognito as some Hitler groupie, are not short of dirty hands themselves.

Good lord...never portrayed him as a Hitler groupie and even said I didn't think he was racist only he used a racial slur in a threatening phone call...

Again it is just a football team....granted we all love football, but some of the reaction are getting out of hand...

For the people taking the Martin suing angle ( I'm not disagreeing with you ). My question is what exactly would he press charges for and to whom exactly would they be faced at? The NFL? The Fins? Or just Incog?

You guys really think he can sue the league/fins for millions based just off that text/VM? I've never seen anything like that in my life.

It's not about actually suing the Dolphins, it's about the threat to sue. They are simply letting the media work its magic to apply pressure so the Dolphins will be in a weakened position so they give Martin as much $ as possible. Martin knew what he was doing, that's why he never revealed the voicemails etc to anyone. He never once wanted to resolve the situation. He simply wanted to leave the NFL with as much $ as possible.

Things like this don't happen with out motive. Funny how ESPN is talking about how Martin can cash in for about 17million in a suit. A number already available.

If you don't think Martin team (parents/agent) are not pulling strings to get their POV out, then I have nothing more to say to you. I again, will not make the mistake to think his family and agent are stupid. Slowly but surely, motive is being exposed. And its slowly showing a pay day at the end of the rainbow, with his parents being the main people at the head of this crisis.

No, you just used a picture of Hitler to make a point.

Yeah this story stinks of Lawyers pulling strings and leaking things until it leads to a major law suit (and their hoping for a major payout)

it's actually more than football...take the game out of it...a money grab is pure trash...want something for nothing

I never said there wasn't a motive. However, the motive could be as small as a paid vacation, as I said. Just because the media is running rampant with ideas doesn't mean it's accurately reading Jonathan Martin's mind.

I don't think money is necessarily the motive for Martin here. I think it's more likely that he wanted time away from the team for some reason, and the team made it clear that in order to be paid, he would need to play. At that point Martin played the only card he had available to be able to stay away while getting his check. He may just want a "paid vacation," not necessarily a huge monetary settlement.

I'd be with you 100% if he turned over the voicemail when the voicemail was left on his phone. If he didn't trust the actual team he simply could have gone to the union. Are you going to try and tell me someone that graduated from Standford didn't know his options in any situation he found himself?

I don't think the PR associated with this is being generated by Martin. I think media sources are taking a sensational story and doing what the media typically does with sensational stories.

Huh? Who do you think leaked the voicemails to Schef on Sunday, the hamburglar?

I suspect he didn't need to play that card at the time. I suspect he needed to play it when he did, last week.

You just refuse to see truth as its slowly being exposed. And its your right. Unlike alot of you here. Only a few of us, have stood by our original thoughts on this. And its slowly but surely exposing the under belly of Martins defense, and his lawyers/agents agenda. That agenda which is taking down a NFL franchise, isn't for a paid vacation.

Again, if that were the case that he actually wanted to resolve this in a mature manor, Martin simply would have turned the voicemals/txts over immediately to someone with the authority to try and resolve the situation. You cannot spin away how damning it is for Martin that he held on to that voicemail for as long as he did.
