Martin to meet with Dolphins soon to discuss future with team

Is this real life?? I'm not even going to harp on him turning his teammates in, but simply put, the guy is mentally ill.. I'd have NOTHING to do with this chump. Take the loss if you can't get a trade and ship him off asap. I can't even believe this is a real possibility right now. You keep him and your locker room turns to pure dog****. No one will be themselves and will always walk on eggshells with the constant reminder of a snake in the room... No way, no how. There is absolutely no honor in what Martin did.

I too was struck by the comments about Miami. The depression can be easily treated with the right medication. However, he sounds like he needs some decent friends outside the O-line locker room and maybe a girlfriend. At the end of the day he needed to get in better physical shape to do a better job of blocking. If he can't do that, the rest is academic.
Also interesting to see the text of encouragement from the anonymous Defensive player immediately after the incident. That guy is one of the few to recognize what was happening and cared about Martin. I'd be very interested to find out who that Defensive player is. My hunch is that it's Nolan Carroll or Jared Odrick - both have the reputation of being top character guys.

Miami claims another victim. Unfortunately, it's often too shallow a place for a lot of people. What a lot of people need is not the glitz, but small-town or close knit type communities, or even a true big city with neighborhoods that are supportive. I've had friends when I was younger that would come from Ohio or someplace like that, get in trouble here, get into drugs and drinking, feel very lonely, and then end up moving back to their home town and straightening out. I'm not surprised he had this experience about Miami.

I want no part of Martin on this team...regardless of Incognito's blame in this, Martin should have gone to management and didn't.

He is a cancer and is a soft player...get what you can for him and move on.

Sending him to San Francisco makes perfect sense. He can feel at home there.
He is a lousy player and he should be traded or let go. Get him as far away from Miami as possible.

Martin is an immature mommas boy who has been cuddled his whole life. With the party animal locker room that Miami (and most other NFL teams for that matter) has, that was a terrible job of scouting for such a high pick. Also, his past bouts with mental illness and depression going jack to middle school did not get investigated? Those should have been huge red flags.
Don't they look at the personalities of the players too? Ireland and the scouting department did a terrible job. He would never fit in with this group. He never did.
Getting rid of Ireland was huge. Apart from Wannstadt, he was the second coming of the destroyer of franchises.
It will be interesting to see who will hire Ireland going forward. We can finally laugh at him from a distance.

Send him to San Fran or Indianapolis.

Rid ourselves of all the components of this debacle.

We need next season to begin without the drama or attention.

Clean slate.

I honestly wonder why he would want to play football is if it is such a chore for him. Why subject yourself to that, which is why I still think that this guy is just a nutcase who wants to still get paid.

Because in his mind, the issue isn't that he is soft or not good enough....the issue is that Incognito, Gerry and Pouncey were mean to him and that caused him to not play well.

I'm sorry, but while I get the fact that Incognito and the "boys" used sophomore language and tactics to harass this guy....he did the same thing as well. His texts and messages indicate the same pattern of behavior that he is accusing others of. If you want to lump all that into some type of diagnosis that he was only doing that to get along........fine.......but how is a meathead like Incognito or Pouncey supposed to know that? They are cruising along thinking everything is fine and continuing on with their behavior because Martin isn't saying anything to the contrary...and is participating in it himself.

Fans want to know how the Coach Philbin didn't know.......heck, I have yet to hear one player interviewed where the player said they knew about this or had any idea this was a problem. Yet somehow, if the only person on the team who knew this was an issue for them (Martin) didn't say anything till the day he left.....yet we somehow expect Joe Philbin to have known about it? The guy with his locker right next to Martin in the locker room didn't even know about it??

In my humble opinion......Fire Turner, Incognito is not resigned, Martin is traded or cut, Gerry is traded or cut and Pouncey is traded. Get rid of all of them and move on. I would not have Martin on my team and I would not have incognito on my team to be sure.

Let's hope SF forgets that Martin was a terrible football player and how losing his job caused more anguish than anything else

Hell no!!!!! Trade him/ release him but don't let him back . We don't need more scrutiny in the lock room after the soft jelly roll with issues tore threw once.

Do everything possible to make Jon happy. Everything. That is all that is important in this world.

It does not matter that Martin has a drug issue, cannot advocate for himself or simply cannot block.

Not everything in this world but certainly for our current situation.

It doesnt matter that Martin uses drugs as widely as a high percentage of players in the NFL.

It has not been proven that he has a drug "problem" other than possible problem of the legal ramifications. The report stipulates that Incognito is abusing alcohol after terrible performances. Alcohol, is not illegal. Nor has it been proven that he is an alcoholic. Ive gotten trashed after or due to a bad day at the office. You havent?

You are certainly on point when you express the advocate and blocking points. I am shocked that Martin is nit being held accountable for dictating is own future. As Ive written before, the guy has all of my sympathy and empathy for his psychological affliction and such an affliction is not an excuse. It is a disease that can kill. But that does. But that does not subtract that said illness, Martin's lack of inability to cope with the matter is much more prevalent than any of the bullying he absorbed. And this is being overlooked simply because he does come across as a victim. He is certainly been victimized but the manner in which he dealt with the problem because he mentally couldnt deal with the problem is the main source of this entire fiasco.

Also, the guy was terrible. He showed improvement only because he had no where to go but up. This, and this alone, should suffice to justify getting rid of Martin.

I kill Joe Philbin for a lot of things. However, to think that Martin could not feel comfortable coming to him is a complete joke. Joe Philbin is a good person and while oblivious perhaps to what was happening, would not want a player of his to feel this way.

His fear was to be implicated upon any attempt by upper-management to resolve the situation. He would be found out as a "Judas" (snitching) and everything would only get worse.

But why choose such an extreme situation that catapulted him to national "Judas" status rather than attempting to formulate a plan with Philbin on resolving the situation with extreme care so as to not implicate him? If it wouldve failed, he couldve always busted out of the complex and taken the current action. He didnt even attempt a logical solution.

One of the effects of depression is the avoidance of situations that require facing and bravery. Depression can make simple tasks like just getting out of bed in the morning an impossible feat. Imagine contemplating that you have to resolve this issue with Philbin without being found out. It was easier to run and his affliction compels him to run. He doesnt have the will to deal.

Again, its a terrible affliction but the problem stemmed from the affliction that stemmed from Martin.

Thread should be re titled "Martin camp to discuss contract settlement".

Won't be surprised if the Dolphins just buy out Martins contract and release him to be a FA as "best for both party" PR crap.

just dovetailing your thoughts...

Players are allowed to miss practices, workouts, ect (Martin was given a couple of days off when the height of this was occuring in May 2013) due to deaths in family, personnal issues, ect.

How on god's green earth did Jmart not see if he was allowed a few days off then, that he could not seek more attention from Philbin to deal with this in a confidential manner?

Joe Philbin may be a suck ass coach in some people's eyes, but being unapproachable is not one of them.
