Maurice Jones-Drew

Why not spend the money on your off. line and your backs can go into the pass pattern instead of filling holes left by a crappy line! Grab Gerhart for a tenth of the money for short yardage and way less wear n tear and younger. Then draft Gaffney from Stanford who played in pro style off. also and is great 1 cut runner you can get prob. in 5th rd.

The thing that really pisses me off is we had a good RB here in Reggie Bush. F Ireland!

RB's are chump change. You can do both very easily. You want a back that can slip out and catch and help in protection.

sometimes, you have a defense that blitzes...

I don't trust backs coming off lisfranc, especially one nearing 30. Ronnie Brown ruined me for that injury.

Year removed from it, didn't have any issues last year. Frankly, 2012 was really the only year he had any durability issues. Considering Brown's issues he's still stuck around for a while.

Ironic how you use frankly when talking about a lisfranc injury.

And i like jones drew but not at what you would have to pay to acquire him. would prefer Gerhart or a draft pick.

What do you realistically think he's gonna earn? The market is decreasing for backs, and I think SJax set his ceiling last offseason.

My guess would be around 5 or 6 per. Now thats not unreasonable for an every down back but after all of the other positions are addressed will there be that much to spend on him?

What part of his game over the last couple games would warrant a contract like that? Hes had a missed 2012 and followed it up with a year where he rushed for under 3.5 YPC.

Last year's market:

Reggie Bush: 4 years @ 16 million. Coming off 1200 all purpose yards and 8 TD's.
Steven Jackson: 3 years @ 12 million. Coming off 1500 all purpose yards and 4 TD's.
Shonn Greene: 3 years @ 10 million. Coming off 1200 all purpose yards and 8 TD's.
Rashard Mendenhall: 1 @ 2.5 million. Coming off injury.
Ahmad Bradshaw: 1 @ 2 million. Coming off 1230 all purpose yards and 6 TD's.
Mike Goodson: 3 @ 6.9 million.
LeGarrette Blount: 1 @ 1.75 million

You could then probably argue this RB FA pool is deeper:
Ben Tate, Rashad Jennings, Darren McFadden, MJD, Knowshon Moreno, Andre Brown, Donald Brown, Rashard Mendenhall, Ahmad Bradshaw, Toby Gerhart, James Starks, LeGarrette Blount.

So with all that said, I can't see any scenario where he's making more than $4 million annually. MJD's coming off 1100 all purpose yards and 5 TD's, and he's 29 and he's coming off a down year. Something between $2-4 should get it done, and that makes him a good value. SJax is MJD last year but with superior production, so there's no reason he'd make more in a deeper FA RB pool.

Bush could be argued as not a 3 down RB so that knocks down his value, Jackson took a discount to go to a contender, Bradshaw and Mendenhall had injury problems. Greene went for a backup role, Blount just made a name for himself with the second half of last season behind a strong O-line, and idk about goodson. Last year he was getting back into after the injury while on a bad team so you cant expect good number. Now that rushing title from a couple years ago will still drive up his value and a team will pay extra for him.

Now if he is worth that i dont think he is because a 30 year old RB is like a 40 year old QB because their bodies break down faster. I dont think he should get that type of money but i still think he can get it.

Reggie Bush was signed as a 3 down back though, and is younger. Sjax whether he took a discount or not, he still had better production than MJD over a longer period and no durability issues. I can't see him making more than $4m, the pay for RB's is declining steeply and it's not all of a sudden gonna shoot up for a 29 year old back with lots of tread. I've seen MJD ranked from anywhere from 2-8 as far as FA RB's go, he's not that highly regarded anymore, sort of a forgotten guy.
