Mckinnie would like to return with Dolphins

Keep him and draft a bunch of linemen. Let him and Pouncey teach them.

Not sure he is the kind to teach. Baltimore wasted little time setting him afloat and they have some youngsters on oline.
Oher did not seem to improve while playing with him. Like I said vets min, why not but he really was not good at all last year

You can't replace an entire O-line without giving up crazy amounts of picks (trades/draft) and cap space (FA). Rebuilding this line is at least a 2, possibly 3 year process. Having McKinney for one more year will allow us to spend wisely and address the other areas of the O-line while potentially grooming a young, new LT.

I do wonder when the FA class of LT's are set, how much better other members of the group are "that much better" than McKinnie.

I don't think its that hard to find a LT better than Mckinnie in free agency. Mckinnie wasn't good and was pathetic in run blocking

If u have Mckinnie starting its like ignoring LT at this point.

This is an interesting point. There is an argument that in today's NFL you can turn it around in a year. Miami saw it in 2008. But it was fleeting. This team is not close to legit.

I would like to see a bpa approach for building a legitimately strong team with lasting power. Miami has so many needs. 4 o linemen. Rb. Te. Wr. DT. Lb. s. Miami can plug holes but to really do it right it will take multiple years. If that's true just accept Miami isn't close and draft the bpa. After 2-3 years the team will have lots more good players and the line will take care of itself.

Here is a list of some OL names, the problem is that we won't be the only team looking so how many OL can we realistically get in FA?

1. Eugene Monroe
2. Alex Mack
3. Jordan Gross
4. Brian de la Puente
5. Branden Albert
6. Roger Saffold
7. Zach Strief
8. Jared Veldheer
9. Anthony Collins
10. Chad Rinehart

The argument that this is a 3 year project just isn't true, at least it doesn't have to be. Yes, you have pay for talent. Miami has money to spend, so as long as they don't go bananas they can bring in at least 2 FA to start. Let's say Veldeer and Collins, reasonable. Both will start at tackle. You draft Zack Martin, one guard. Now you can ask yourself if you need to draft another guard, draft a tackle to develop, or let your returners fight for the last guard spot (Brenner, Yeatman, Thomas).

It can be done.

Miami's line is Veldeer, Martin, Pouncey, Brenner, Collins, and is markedly improved. The original argument holds true if you want to get the top players and prospects at their respective positions, but no line is loaded with all pros.

Thinking Miami is close and trying to wack a mole your way to filling holes is what got Jeff Ireland fired.

A good GM should look at it this way. "Three years from now, people will look at how many good players I drafted. That will be on me. I will try to draft as many good players as I can. That will make it tough to fire me because no one will fire someone with a long list of draft successes."

Not doing this is what led Ireland to draft Vontae Davis instead of Clay Matthews; John Jerry instead of Jimmy Graham; Philip Merling and Chad Henne instead of trading up for Flacco (or Merling over Ray Rice for that matter); Patrick Turner; Dallas Thomas; etc etc. Ireland paid lip service to bpa then did nothing but fill needs.

Go BPA and this team will be really strong for the long haul. Otherwise, you may have fleeting success for a year here and there, like 2008, but it's not lasting.

Im not sure that if u look at so called BPA that Ireland would have made those choices. They had Henne rated about as high as Ryan so why would he have taken Flacco as the BPA. Davis over Matthews Im not so sure that Matthews was BPA on his board either. In fact not many people could have predicted that Matthews would turn out this good. Now Jerry over Graham I agree. Many on this board would argue we went BPA last year and Jordan was at best dissapointing

Maybe he could be trained up a bit more in the new scheme if his body feels 100% by minicamp. I think run-blocking is more teachable and pass-blocking is more instinctual for a veteran player.

It's all about determining ROI and I'm sure hickey & Joe will figure that out, with Benton's assistance.
